I got a nissan sentra 1993 2Door manual. When I fill up the tank the fuel guage doesnt move and shows empty for the rest of the day but when left overnight it goes up and shows that the fuel tank is full. I went to miami from hollywood (about 20 highway miles away) and I used more that a quarter tank of fuel according to the Fuel guage. now after 98 miles after I filled the tank up full its showing that I have used more than half a tank. How is this possible. I drove this car from Balitmore, MD to Hollywood, FL and it took me about 50 gallons of fuel. The tank can hold up to 13 gallons of fuel. Car is in a bad condition. However, I have replaced the following items in it:
Fuel filter, Hose to the fuel filter, Air filter, spark plugs, Spark wires, Alternator, New battery, Oil and Oil filter (cleaned the oil tank with Kerosene oil). The enigine is loud and I know that the exsaust system needs to be replaced.

If your fuel gauge is showing you in accurate readings this is normal to all vehicles that are not used to fill-up gas full regularly but sometimes the cause of the inacuracy is due to faulty float valve in the gas tank you need to replace it
if it was working before the pump swap i would have to suspect that the wiring connection for the fuel sender was not reconnected properly when the fuel tank was put back into the car.
It is located in the gas tank as a part of the fuel pump assembly and im not sure about the access but if you cant see a removable plate in the trunk then the tank will have to be droped.
CK THE FUEL GUAGE BY GROUNDING SENDING UNIT GUAGE WIRE IF GUAGE GOES TO FULL SUSPECT BAD SENDING UNIT IN TANK ,BUT I HAVE SEEN THESE HAVE BRASS FLOATS AND THEY WILL FILL UP AND SINK TO THE BOTTOM TO INDICATE EMPTY
hi this sounds like it could be a couple of things, first the obvious have you checked the fuse? or it might be the relay in the fuse box might need replacing, and the fuel sender unit in the fuel tank, you also can check out the wires going to the sender unit, sometimes you can find these under the rear seat or in the boot/trunk area might be a simple case of one of the wires have come adrift there is a couple of things to check before having the sender unit replaced or the Gage..hope that helps
hi, try to check if the fuse is ok, if not then you must have some problem on your fuel sending unit, you may need to replace it for it may be faulty, it happens when its too old, hope this helps.
The most likely culprit is the sending unit in the tank. They are relatively easy to change, as long as you don't have much fuel in the tank. It's a mechanical unit that has a float that raises and lowers with the fuel level, however with age, the floats can develop leaks and no longer float, of the electronic portion of the unit can go bad and not register the proper level. They are replaced and an entire unit, so it doesn't matter which happened, you will need to change the fuel tank sending unit.
open circuit in the fuel level sensor. mounted in tank. as the fuel level in the tank starts to drop the arm will move past the dead spot on the sensor and the gauge will start reading again.i dont recommend diy replacement of the fuel level sender.
Sounds like the Fuel sender unit in the fuel tank needs replacing however you may want to check that the electrical plugs are contacting properly,Check that the gauge is working by putting a piece of wire from the sender unit wire to the chassis,at the fuel tank sender unit plug,Turn ignition on while watching gauge if it moves toward fill turn ignition off and remove wire to chassis. If gauge moves it means from the fuel tank to fuel gauge is intact and not your problem.
If you remove the sending unit in the gas tank, move it manually by hand as u saw done earlier, the gauge on the dash should also move. As long as the sending unit in the tank isn't 'stuck' at the half full level, the gauge should register empty to full as it moves. To be honest, I'm not sure if I would bother taking the sending unit out. 1st, u must be very careful not to blow yourself up when working on the gas tank (no sparks, etc), all u really need to do is fill up your car, see how many miles a tank of gas will go (carry a can of gas with u to see how many miles before u run out). If it's 350 miles, just set the trip gauge to zero every time u fill up, and get gas every 300 miles so u don't run out. If the sending unit moves freely, everything (wiring ) is connected properly, then it probably is the fuel gauge. good luck!
