SOURCE: Changing Paper Size
If the blue guide in the back of the tray (called the length plate adjuster) is broken or dislodged, the machine may not recognize what size paper is installed. When the guide is moved, three arms on the right side of the paper tray change configuration. Those arms push against sensors in the machine to tell the printer what size paper is in the tray. You can temporarily resolve this by taping the guide in the A4 position, however you should consider replacing the tray or replacing the guide soon to avoid tape getting into the printer.
Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Paper Tray Settings
You have Auto Tray Switching acticated (ATS). Unless you specify each tray/paper with different settings it will switch.
Go in to the utility menu and you can find this in the paper tray settings area I believe.
You can turn this off completely to avoid this in the future.
If you look around you can even just tweak the settings for this, but in your case i would just shut it off.

The paper size selected in the menu system must match the paper size in the rec. (recording) paper tray. If you have 'letter' size paper in the tray and the menu system is set for 'A4' paper you will get this message. Either put A4 size paper in the tray, or change the paper size in the menu system to 'letter'.

Using the printer panel; you need to change tray paper size from a4 to letter or the size you are using to print on.
An astrick will appear to the right of the size paper that the printer currently has selected.

first of all: when you put in paper cass. does the paper cass. produce abnormal sound like kling kling but without klang- if so the gear that rise paper is broken.( do not tray to remove and replace the gear without copy repair experience) this gear is in paper pick up unit, under the countless of clutches, spring, gears, solenoids,...
second: can you see if there is any sensor hanging, remove both cass. and try to compare!
If the machine copys normal from second cass. it is allmost 100% pick up unit.-call service
