Question about Hotpoint 24 in. FDW60 Free-standing Dishwasher

1 Answer

FDW60 dishwasher Hi My dishwasher is about 15 months old and the problem I have is that it seems to stay on pump and the Ecco45 light is flashing.  A repair company looked at the machine and said that the motor looked like it was leaking and water was getting in the bottom setting off the micro-switch.  He contacted Hotpoint who fitted a new motor today at a cost of £89.85.  Went to use dishwasher tonight and we still have the same problem.  The dishwasher started the washing programme for about 8 minutes, it them pumped out the water where it continued to stay on pump (I think - a motor of somesort was running). then the Ecco 45 light started flashing.  Some of the dished were still dirty and the washing tablet had not been released from the container, but it did fill warm inside so the water had obviously heated to temperature.  Hope you can help solve my problem.

I've just (as of 10 minutes ago) had the same problem. I followed the advice given elsewhere in this forum and removed the bottom cover - water running out so needed a big towel to mop it up. I stood the machine upright and restarted it - no problem! it started straight away.
The question now is where is the water coming from? It seems there is obviously a leak somewhere and water is gathering in the undertray setting off the microswitch.

    more news!

I've read elsewhere that the lower spray arm on these hotpoint machines is particularly prone to splitting along the seam. This causes water to spray out horizontally from the arm whilst it is rotating and straight out under the bottom of the door, down the front panel and into the undertray. I've removed the bottom sprayarm (unscrew the white retaining nut under the arm and it just comes off), restarted the machine and there are no puddles underneath. So i'm ordering a new lower sprayarm from www.4hotpoint.co.uk at £7.99 + P&P to see if that sorts it once and for all.

to be honest, I'm not impressed with the FDW60 and if it doesn't fix it I'm cutting my losses and buying a new machine with a better reputation. I've got better things to do on a Monday evening than mess around underneath a dishwasher...

    ...further update:

after removing the lower arm, be sure to screw the white collar/nut back in to the machine before testing, as, without it, water will pour through the hole and you may not have enough towels to cope with the ensuing deluge...:-(

    2 weeks on.

New spray arm was fitted (arrived within 48hrs) and machine now running OK with no signs of leaks. Good job I never called out an engineer as who knows how much the 'repair' bill would have been!

Hotpoint FDW60 flashing eco light

if the eco light is flashing, this indicates that saftey float switch has activated in the base of the dishwasher usually caused by a leak, a polystyrene float activates a microswitch which cuts of the water inlet supply
