The little white button on the lower right front of the machine is the button that drops the feed teeth. If it is pressed in the feed teeth are down, push in a lift upward to be sure it's in the "Up" position. Then look on the left side of the machine, you'll see a dial, (NOT the dial facing you as you sit in front of the machine) make sure the red dot on the dial is lined up with the red dot on the painted part of the machine.
Finally look at the dial on the front of the machine. The one with the little button in the center of it. Put it on the number 3. If your machine doesn't feed fabric after doing what I've outlined then you need to take it in for service.

Try putting tearaway stabilizer or tissue paper under your material and see if it helps.

Have the feed dogs been lowered for some reason and not reengaged back up? you should be ableto see them moving above the needle plate if you turn the flywheel manually towards you with the pressure foot removed and no fabric or thread in the machine.

If they are engaged and moving but not coming up then the machine will need to be serviced to get them realligned into position.

Pressure foot wont go fully down

The pressure foot is only made to push down on the material, not the feed dogs. If you put it too low it will destroy the feed dogs and the pressure foot as well as the material.
1. To adjust, lower the pressure of the pressure foot as much as you can.
2. Place a thick piece of material under the foot. Turn the hand wheel until the feed dogs are up.
3. The pressure foot rod has a screw that holds it into place. You will adjust the rod by moving it up and down until there is a small amount of pressure on the material. Tighten the screw and try your machine without a needle to see if the material will move. Now, try other thicknesses of material. The rod may need to be slightly adjusted a small amount to get it "just right".
4. PUT IN NEEDLE AND CHECK FOR ALIGNMENT TO THE HOLE. (DANGER IF NOT ALIGNED).

My feed dogs will not pull my material through.

Check to be sure you have not inadvertently dropped the feed dogs on your machine. Dropped feed dogs are used for 'darning' or 'free motion quilting.' Below is info from Troubleshooting Manual:

Fabric does not feed through the machine
The feed dogs are lowered. Use the feed dog position switch to raise the feed dogs. 81
The stitches are too close together. Lengthen the stitch length. 42
The wrong presser foot was used. Attach the correct presser foot. 179
The needle is bent or blunt. Replace the needle with a new one. 34
The thread is tangled. Use scissors, etc., to cut the tangled thread and remove it from the race, etc.

Why is my brother ls2160 is sewing fine on cotton but not on the material I am using. Its a stretchy silky kind of material. What am i doing wrong?

You may need to use a walking foot with your machine as stretchy fabrics are hard for the feed dogs to 'grip' and pull the material through under the needle.... you will probably need to change needle as well... there should be a helpful video on YouTube that will tell u all about sewing with stretchy fabrics and how a 'walking foot' works... hope that helps.

Seems to be too much gap between pressure foot and tension plate .. material is held loosely

Are the feed dogs completely up?
Are the feed dogs worn or clogged with lint and yuck?
Is there a presser foot pressure setting dial or knob?
Is the correct foot on the machine?
Is the presser foot correctly mounted?
Is the needle plate correctly mounted?

Material won't feed through on kenmore 17600 sewing machine

Take out the material, take off the foot and needle. Stick your finger on the feed dogs and hand turn the hand wheel like sewing. Does the feed dog come slightly above the surface of the needle plate? If it does.... tighten the presser foot tension.

If it doesn't locate the switch that drops the feed dog. Make sure it's in up position.

If neither of those solutions work. Remove the needle plate and see if the feed dog or mechanism that runs it is broken

Good luck

Does 514 pressure foot move?

what is the name of the machine?
do you want a manual?
the feed dogs are what move the fabric thru the machine, the presser foot only hold the fabric against the feed dogs so the feed dogs can move the fabric
the feed dogs in the needle plate area should be up

I have just started learning how to quilt and I was told I needed a walking foot to quilt the sandwich together. I purchased one today, but I don't even know how to attach the foot. I also need to...

The foot is attached as normal, but when you're attaching it, the fork-shaped part that sticks out of the right-hand-side has to be hooked around the round pillar sticking out horizontally from the right-hand-side of the needle bar and that holds the needle securing screw. When the foot is down, you will see that the upwards motion of the needle bar raises the upper set of feed dogs on the walking foot - the whole purpose of the walking foot is to provide, effectively, a set of feed dogs on the top of the material as well as the toothed ones below the stitch plate - this allows multilayered or thick materials to be sewn as when doing quilting.

Have a janome master craft 3000, just bought it used yesterday. Was sewing fine then all of a sudden it would stop pushing the material through like the needle was dull or something. Now it's doing it...

First do a process of elemination. Unthread the machine, both top and bottom, take out the needle. Place a piece of fabric under the pressure foot, lower the pressure, and depress the foot control. Does the fabric feed? If it does, then put in a NEW needle, thread up the machine, and see what happens. A dull needle won't prevent the fabric from feeding. If the fabric does not feed with no thread, then you have a pressure foot pressure problem, or a feed dog height problem, or a feed step motor problem, or possibly a board problem. If it only has a problem when you thread it up, then maybe you have a burr on the needle plate and the thread is hanging up on it and preventing the fabric from feeding. Check for all of these and if you still need assistance respond back.

Model 385-15343600 Serial 71073690 The stitches are very, very small all the time regardless which of the tension used (bobbin and needle).

The stitch length dial needs to be set to a lower number (number of stitches per inch) to give you longer stitches. The tensions do not regulate the stitch length, the feed dogs regulate the distance the material is advanced between stitches. Also, make sure the pressure foot is applying enough pressure to keep the material in firm enough contact with the feed dogs.
