LCD Black I went to turn on my camera and everything turned on normally( shutter opened). When we lookied at the LCD screen it is black but the icons show up. We can change setting. If you take a picture the way it is now the picture turns out black. I cannot see any images in the LCD at all. All pictures taken now are black.

I have the same problem. Can I fix it? Is it just a small problem? A setting or something?

hi ya, i also have had same problem so i contacted them and they say it is known hardware fault(ccd) but refuse to fix it, unless you pay £89.00. this has to be sent to one specialist repairer in newcastle under lyme and the postal charges are a lot too with 3/4 weeks till you get it back. dont touch this camera and dont buy anything from them their attitude sucks, seems they quick enough to take your money but not quick on customer service.

Exactly the same problem. Looks like it is a known fault. Has anybody found a way around it?

Swith off the Camera and gently tap the bottom(tripod hole side) to a hard surface, I was lucky and it worked for me for the same kind of problem.

SOURCE: LCD is black

you can see images clearly? but no Menu items show is that what you mean? This would indicate a firmware malfunction. If you see nothing at all on the screen but only 'ghost' images then the back light has blown. Try first of all with the camera on tapping gently at the base of the casing in the region of the screen- this is where the connectors to the main board are. Contact The Minolta support team. If you are getting nowhere - I suggest the next camera - repairs are not usually an economic option if at all.

When trying to take a pic, I only get a black LCD screen. I can see the icons and I can play pictures back on the review mode. Any idea what's wrong? Thanks!

Try pressing the DISP button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the screen on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place to save batteries.
That normally fixes the problem of a black screen, but if it didn't, a stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Hey, I just purchased a Canon Powershot A720 IS today and as I was messing with it the LCD screen just went black. The icons on it show up, but when I take a picture its just black, as if the shutter isn't...

First turn on the camera and press the DISP button on the back of the camera (lower left corner). The DISP button manually turns the screen on and off to save batteries. But if that doesn't fix it, then take the camera back for exchange. Black pictures are usually indicative of a defective CCD imager, and hence a defective camera. You can't fix this yourself.

My lcd screen is black

hi there guys, if the screen is black and the camera takes black pictures, then you should look if you are getting a on screen display on camera mode. if you are then i would say one of two things, either the shutter is not opening or the ccd( electronic imaging device) is not functioning. to check the shutter you should look into the lenses centre part and check for movement from the shutter to see if it is opening.

Casio Exilim EX-S500 screen is black when turned on

you camera shutter is stuck at close position, you will need to open
the thing up to repair.

================================================

As for the totally dark screen, either your LCD or driver board is bad. You will need to open and replace the broken part.

Black Lcd and pictures.

The problem you are experiencing is due to the shutter being stuck closed. Normally the shutter is kept open while you compose the image, and then when you push the button it closes and the CCD records what it was seeing at that moment. When the shutter is stuck the image is blocked from reaching the CCD at all times so you can see nothing. Unfortunately the shutter is a tiny delicate component buried deep within the lens assembly and is not accessible without complete disassembly. I would suggest finding a repair center to ship the camera to, or replacing the camera. I would definitely not _gently_ tap the camera on a hard surface to possibly dislodge a slightly stuck shutter blade. This could easily cause further damage to the camera. However, you are not me. ;) David Millier Advance Camera Repair
