Yes, just put the camera in manual mode with shutter speed within x-sync range. Select the aperture based on either the auto flash or guide number (manual flash). The flash can provide auto exposure but excess ambient light will not cause any exposure adjustment by the camera, so just be aware if shooting flash involves going out into daylight, etc.

Try resetting the camera by removing the battery for 20 mins. then replace the battery, power it up and go to the Menu and set the Date & Time.

Sigma makes lenses with a variety of mounts. As long as you get one with a Canon mount it will work on your 600D. A lens with, say, a Sony mount, will not work on a Canon camera.

No. The 600D uses the LP-E8. This is the same battery as used by the 550D, but not the 500D.
