Question about Hayden-Harnett 1975-1999 Ford F250 Engine Cooling Fan Hayden 75-99 Ford Engine Cooling Fan 1998 1985

1985 F250 460 runs for 2 seconds but then dies

I've been having problems with my truck running for only two seconds but then it dies. I've replaced so far the ignition control module, the ignition coil, ignition coil cap, it has a brand new fuel pump in it. I even bought a brand new Holley carburetor for it. I've limited it down to the fuel cause when I spray carburetor spray into the carburetor I can keep it running. I'm thinking it might be my fuel pump relay but I have no idea where it is. If you can tell me where it is or if you have any other suggestions for me I would greatly appreciate to hear back from you. My email is deaks15@gmail.com

I am having the same issue, have replaced the relays which are two black snap together relays under your hood, should be hanging under the cervo (cruise control)they are corroding like there is a short. I told my mechanic do not call me until you figure out what is causing this, tired of it. said he fixed it. My daughter whom I gave the truck to got about 90 miles up the highway on a very hot day and it just stopped, leaving her stranded out in the middle of no where for two hours before we could get to her. If you get any answers please send them my way

If it is a carburated engine it should have a mechanical fuel pump on the side of the engine, if this is the case it will only pump gas when the engine is cranking or running. Disconnect fuel line at carb, crank engine and see if it pumps gas out of line, if not check filter and lines from carb to tank for stoppage or bending but more than likely you will have to change fuel pump.

I have replaced the whole fuel system parts, but something is shutting off power to the pump and scorching my relays. Where would the short be? pretty sure it's a short somewhere.

85 with TBI only needs 13lbs of fuel pressure. verify that the fuel filter is clean. there is no easy way to ck fuel pressure, special adapters are needed, I dont have info here at home but there should be a relay for the pump, on the firewall and the oil pressure switch also powers the pump. did you replace the pump trying to fix this problem or did you just mention it to help troubleshoot the problem? verify that the fuel pump wiring has a good ground, should have been a eyelet that bolted to the frame..when you initially turn the key on, you should hera the fuel pump power up for 2 seconds, then go off, after the engine starts, the power for the pump goes through the oil pressure switch.

The fuel pump relay, which is probably by the other relays under the hood by the big fuses, can surely be tired after all these years. Don't buy an off brand, I had one of those stick ON!

Check your plugs and distributer timing. Maybe try running some seafoam through your injectors.
