Will not boot

With limited information, this could be many things, however, I can try to explain what is happening. The computer runs several tests before it boots. This process is called POST (power on self test). During POST, all critical systems are analyzed, albeit a short test. When the system comes to something that does not pass the test, it usually puts up a warning allowing you to either continue or shut down and fix it. Sometimes, it comes to a test that creates a "loop" of instructions for the computer. When a loop happens, the computer does the same thing over and over and cannot stop. A loop can occur during POST if an instruction is not followed correctly. The most common cause for this in your type of computer is a problem with either the boot sector on the hard drive or the hard drive itself. Try disconnecting the hard drive and boot to a floppy or a cd. If the computer boots, you know where your trouble is. If on the other hand, with the hard drive disconnected and the same problem occurs, change your memory to fix the problem. Good luck tony
