Question about Maytag Washing Machines

Broke the plastic screen that goes to the cold water inlet valve?

My machine would only run a trickle of water into the tub so I checked the water lines for clogs. The hog water line filter was clogged but I cleaned it up & replaced it. The cold water filter on broke upon taking it out. I am afraid that a piece of the plastic filter might have come loose & went into the machine somehow. So I decided to try to run a load of clothes. Now when the cold water valve is on the cold water constantly trickles into the tub. The machine did run a load ok, but I had to turn off the cold water line between cycles What do I do to repair this.

The broken bit of filter has probably got stuck under the rubber diaphragm in the inlet valve. You will have to strip the inlet valve and remove the piece. There should be 3 or 4 screws holding the valve together. Make a note of how it comes apart. There will be a spring, a metal plunger and the rubber diaphragm inside the valve.

SOURCE: kenmore 90 series need to replace the inlet valve

This is actually a simple repair that the average Do-It-Yourselfer can perform with just a little guidance. The following link explains all the steps necessary to replace a water inlet valve on a Kenmore top loader:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r600647-replacing_water_inlet_valve_kenmore

If you have questions along the way, please let me know. A replacement valve can be purchased online at searspartsdirect.com, appliancepartspros.com, repairclinic.com, or pcappliancerepair.com. All these sites offer competitive pricing and excellent service, so shop all of them for the best price. Use your model number for your search criteria. If you do not wish to order on line, use the part number found at the sears or appliancepartpros website and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. This is a part that is commonly carried as part of the in store inventory. I hope this helps you.

Ty for being here. I have a kenmore stack washer

Inside the machine you have a valve called inlet.

The inlet water valve will collect the cold and hot water lines, and open alternatively one or the other during cycle.

To access the inlet valve you need to take apart the machine, and that is not an easy task.
If you DIY remember to unplug power, there is high voltage running inside your appliance.

Below the inlet valve for your model:

Cold water into tub of wash machine

For low water volume - or "Trickling" effect...

1. Turn off the water supply to both hoses.
2. Remove hoses (one at a time so you don't get them confused)
3. On the washer side - look for a removeable screen inside wher you just removed the hose.
4. Using a small screwdriver - pop out the screen and reverse-flush it/clean it. It will likely be full of sediment and calcium deposits from your pipes.
5. Replace the inlet screens.
6. Re-fit the hose to the machine.
7. Turn on water supply valves.
8. re-try.
