I'm experiencing white horizontal static lines on my Acer Aspire 9410 notebook screen (using Vista). It appears to be a hardware problem as I can move the screen to different positions (more open or more closed) and it gets better, worse, or goes away altogether. I'm thinking maybe a ribbon wire connector of some sort shorting or pinching?
However, it may not be hardware, as it is always present on my desktop, but not always present on internet pages. When I'm using the internet, I see it only at the bottom of my screen in the application bar, but not on the website I'm viewing.
I'm stumped. I'm pretty mechanically inclined (cars, etc.) but have never cracked open a computer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom

- OK, I've connected an external monitor to my laptop and the external monitor looks perfect, while my laptop screen continues to have white static lines. So, I believe that rules out the video driver or software issues. In fact, the laptop screen has gotten worse and I'm getting the static all the time now, regardless of what I'm working on. Earlier today, I had so much static, the lower 1/3 of my screen was white. As I move the screen (more open or more closed) it gets better or worse. Haayz, you sugested that perhaps my LCD is bad and needs replaced. By LCD do you mean the entire screen display? How expensive is this for this machine (ballpark). How difficult - I'm mechanically inclines, just have not worked on computers before. Wondering if it's worth it or time for a new machine? Thanks for your help. Tom
Try updating the video driver. Also try to connect your laptop to external machine to check if the video display on the other machine is ok or not.
If same problem occur, suspected the LCD of your laptop is faulty and needs to be replace.

I have a Gateway M465-e laptop. The hard drive is detected in the BIOS and works fine on another computer. The hard drive will not detect when installing Windows XP with a Gateway disk: ''Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.'' The battery on it was dead until I plugged in the power adapter. Any ideas?

corrupt bios on acer aspire 5535. i know the proceedure for force flashing acer machines, unfortunatly in there infinite wisdom acer have modified almost all the native firmwares of the hardware they use, including the bios, meaning a standard phoenix recovery doesnt work. whats required is to create a bootable usb drive with a FAT filetable, the flashit.exe acer provide and the new bios. the problem is that the bios filename must be specific to that model, and there are no instructions on how to name it... IE, for the acer one the file name is Z5GIA32.FD the Z5G refers to the model, the 32 i presume to the bit rate of the cpu. whats the IA???
