The resource center web site does not list machines of that vintage.
best bet is a motor rewind shop and shape larger brushes to fit.

SOURCE: Need oil/grease for Hobart 20 qt. mixer

Hi. Your A200 is in need of service. The grease's lifespan has expired. There are two ways of doing this. First, the expensive way. Call for a Hobart Tech to come and service the mixer. This will take about 4-5hrs to service at a rate around $100.00usd per hour, plus the cost of parts. He/she will need to change all seals, remove old grease and oil, check all bearings and gears for excessive wear and replace as necessary, this includes the planetary gear.

Now for the affordable solution. Unplug the mixer, remove the top cover. Gently use a small screwdriver to pry off the two circular metal dust caps found on the transmission housing, use a good flashlight to determine, through these openings, the quality, quantity and condition of the grease inside the transmission case. If there's a lot of oil you can remove much of it a bit at a time by using a wire coat hanger to which you can attach bits of cloth to absorb as much oil as you can. Once oil is removed, add new grease through these same holes until full (Chevron FM ALC EP-2, food grade lube). Run the mixer for a couple of minutes to distribute the new grease. Fill to the top once again and replace dust covers. Remove planetary, clean, inspect change seal and re-grease.

OPTION (mechanically challenging) You can do a more thorough job by removing the trans. cover completely, removing the 3 gear shafts inspect all bearings and gears, change seals on mainshaft and planetary. Remove old grease and oil, clean gearshafts and gears. Parts drawings are available from www.hobartservice.com It's free to register and then locate your parts drawings. Be sure that you have the correct files for your Model #, ML# if there is one and Spec.#, all found on the info plate.

When disassembling, take a digital photo of every step and lay the removed components on a piece of cardboard in the removed sequence. These practices will become valuable during re-assembly.

If this solution has assisted you, please rate it. ricardok45

What model number is your machine? Try turning it on it's side and shake a little, take a very small screwdriver and grind away to crack the brush and shake it out. Otherwise it is a full tear down to take the brush holder out. Hope this helps if not get back to us for help

My wife has a K5A mixer from the '70's that she loves. While I was checking the brushes, I over-tightened the brush cap and broke the threaded part it screws into. Can I get a new part?

The Brush holder caps / covers for the K5 series whether Hobart or Kitchenaid by Whirlpool (after 1986 when Whirlpool bought Kitchenaid from Hobart) will fit the K5-A they just wont be flush like the older Hobart caps. They come in black or white.

Won't turn on

Get a copy of the Repair Part List for your model at Kitchenaid.com
On each side of the Motor Housing(1) is the large black Brush Motor
Cap(23). Each Carbon Brush(19) is keyed (one corner is not square)
and is designed to go into the Motor Housing slot but only one way.
Each Carbon Brush must make contact with the Motor Coils. The
motor will not turn if one or both does not come in contact with the coils.
If the brushes are too worn out, of course they won't touch the coils
neither and your motor will not run. You can purchased new brushes
on Ebay if they need to be replaced.

I took a KitchenAid K45 apart to clean (made in

What everyone is forgetting or they just don't know is that...The K45 introduced by Hobart in 1962 and was replaced in 1978 by the K45SS are two completely different machines. With completely different wiring systems. The K45 is wired together with wire nuts and the K45SS used connectors on the Speed control switch. All of the websites posted above are for the K45SS (Stands for Solid State) The manual for he K45SS is easy to get from Kitchenaid as the mixer electronics did not change from it's introduction in 1978 to 1986 when Hobart sold the Kitchenaid division to Whirlpool. The K45 on the other hand is a product and property of Hobart NOT Whirlpool or the Kitchenaid division of Whirlpool. The K45 Manual ... well I just can't find one! They way wires are routed is totally different in the K45 from the K45SS so the diagram in the K45SS manual does not help. Also the brushes in the K45 were square not camphor-ed like they are in the K45SS so there is no right or wrong way to insert the brushes in a K45. Whereas; in the K45SS there are four ways to insert the brushes in their holder and three of them are wrong. The K45SS brushes go into a completely different brush holder than the K45. The K45SS is the same today in 2012 as it was in 1978. The K45 is the same only from 1962 when Hobart introduced it to 1978 when it was replaced with the new Solid State model. prior to 1962 it was the K4-A model and it was different entirely. So if the people asking for help say their mixer is a K45 we should be asking for clarification as to a K45 or a K45SS.

Got a hobart mixer model h600-t cutting off and kicking breaker,it runs sometimes for about 5 min. when the ladys are mixing bread, checked amps, not under a load

If you can access the brushes you may want to inspect them. If anything but the carbon brush is touchiing thhe armature. It with trip a breaker.. Unplug it before accessing the brushes < -- my disclaimer :)

? Hobart A200 Mincer/Mixer wont work

does the motor have brushes? If so the mixer will have two removable covers on the back motor plate. If so take some light sandpaper to the part called the comutator that these carbon brushes ride on and make them shinny. If you have a newer style motor that doesnt have brushes. pull the motor cover and make sure the start switch is cleaned by sanding the contacts. If you check your wiring with a ohm/volt meter and it all checks good, well, the first question I should ask is does it hum? if not, the problems in the wiring or power switch. if it humes the problems in the comutator, start switch, capacitor or your motor is shot. unlikely for a mouse infestation. most likely wiring or switch problem.
