Ink cartridge alignment problem

Hi, I am having problem with my new ink cartridges.  I installed them and then went through the alignment process and printed test page.  The message that comes up in the window is "Print cartridge alignment failed."  There is a little exclamation (!) mark that blinks all the time.  Can you help me resolve my problem?  Thanks.  Dan

I'm having the same prob. I've found the printer will print fine if you change the printer settings on your pc from general everyday printing to photo printing, but this is only a temporary solution, as when you switch the printer on again, you get the "please align cartridges" message.

This error has shown every time the printer is turned on since the installation of a new black cartridge HP says I'm out of warrenty and offered to renew my warrenty & get tech support for 1 yr for $65. I can get a refurbished one for less than that .

Message comes up every time I go to print or copy that cartridge has to be aligned, and when it prints alignment, the message comes up that alignment failed. Please help me to resolve this problem.

I have refilled (HP 4110 ) both Black & tri color cartrdge and have been using it for quite some time ,recently when black ink was irregular i took it out and found black cartridge was having enough ink(when shaken ink oozed out.) after i put it back as usual it asked for allignment page printing. printed page when placed for scanning; it repeatedly shows failure in alignment.

and occassionaly & not always shows wrong cartridge inserted !

    please help.

I think this will work. At least it worked for me. I went through the printer SETUP button. Selected the TOOLS option, then pressed OK. First, I selected the CLEAN PRINT CARTRIDGES option. Wait until it finished. Second, I selected the ALIGN PRINT CARTRIDGES, under same TOOLS menu.

when the alignement process ended, it showed ot be succesful in the printer screen.

Hope it works for you all.

After doing some testing (I'm having this problem myself), the problem appears to be with the black ink cartridge. Before I replaced my cartridges, I was using a 343 & a 348 (both tri-colours). Both were running low so I replaced the 343 for another 343, but put a 337 (black) in place of the 348. This is when I started getting problems with alignment. As a test, I took the 337 (black) out, put the old 348 (special tricolour) in again & tried aligning - it worked fine, so it would appear that the 337 black cartridge is the problem. Maybe HP have issued a duff batch, as it's an official HP product. I'm expecting another 337 any day now, so will try again with the new one & see if I get the same problems. But for those of you still having a problem, I'd suggest changing your black 337 cartridge. Sorry this is a bit long winded, but I thought I'd better explain in full! Hope that helps!

yep - it appears to be a problem with the 337 (black) ink cartridge - i tried with another 337 & all is now fine so I suggest HP have issued a duff batch of cartridges.

I had this annoying problem and finally fixed it.
Steps I tried that did NOT work:
1. Align print cartridges (printer menu and computer settings menu)
2. Clean the cartridges (printer menu and computer settings menu)
3. Physically clean the cartridges myself using cotton swabs and water
4. Unplug the printer from the back of the printer while on to "reset" the printer
5. Tried switching from everyday printing to photo printing, but would not print since I still had the alignment error message.

The problem seems to be with the ink cartridge(s) themselves, not the printer per se. Both cartridges must be aligned properly for the printer to work. I use 93 tri-color ink and 98 black ink. Ultimately I found TWO of the new black ink cartridges I had purchased were defective and would not align, so I had to discard them even though I'd just purchased them. The third 98 black ink cartridge finally produced a successful alignment.

Thus, the solution as frustrating as it sounds is to keep buying more HP ink until you get both a tri-color and black cartridge - neither of which are defective - to work together.

I tried to clean & realign but it stills shows an error. HP is no help. I guess you need to align every time until you run out of ink & get a new cartridge. Why won't HP admit a problem & replace the cartridges?

I've been plagued by the problem for months. The alignment always failed, sometimes could print anyway. Seemed to help to reinstall and bail out before installation was complete (it would start printing and then after completed installation, it failed). Today I visited hp.com and downloaded all the driver updates. Problem was solved.

Is this before or after you run the alignment.  Does the page print out?  Do you lay it on the glass and press scan?

Hi,
If you are getting Alignment failed or Align cartridge Error, It could be because of these possible reasons listed below.
1. Faulty Cartridge ( if you are replacing one now )2. Refilled Cartridge ( not filled properly )3. Cartridge Low on ink ( does not give printer enough ink to align the printer )4. Could also be Hardware Issue ( Most of the time the HP Printer has life time of 4-5 years )

First step,
Remove all the cartridges out and clean the electrical contacts ( golden Contacts ) with a lint free cloth and Re-install them again
It should go through the alignment process and complete it.
If it does not,
Try to access the Setup menu and under tools you will find Align Printer, Try this.
If the Cartridge ink is full or has adequate ink ( atleast 30% in each cartridge ), and the cartridge is not refilled, then the last option is to do a hard reset on the printer.
But Doing the reset your printer will loose network connection, all the printer settings and fax logs,
To do the Reset,
Disconnect the power cord from back of the printer ( while printer is powered on )While holding the # and 6 button at the same time, Connect the power cord back.Go through the setup process to re-setup the printer settings,If it still does not align the printer, You may give a try to install using new cartridge ( but i doubt, it could be the end of the printer.)
Call HP and check if they have any good offer or they can help you with aligning the printer once.
Regards,Suhail

Hi,

According to your problem first make sure that you have installed the cartridges properly. Go the the printer properties in control panel and follow the steps open the printinging preferences tab> maintainance tab > Ink cartridge replacement> then the window will show the process of the replacement of ink cartridge. Follow those steps of replacement. Then let the cartridge be processed, it will take a few time. And then your cartridge replacement will be finished. Then align the cartridges from the alignment option in printing preferences as well. If it doesn't solve your problem then the cartridges are faulty, replace a new set of cartridge is recomended.

Make sure all the protective tape on the Black cartridge has been removed. Also are the inks re-filled? I have seen many re-filled cartridges fail in a similar maner.

Hello.

That message is indicating that there is a problem with the cartridge alignment.

From HP:There are several reasons why the HP All-in-One may fail to align the cartridges. The most common reason is an ink cartridge that has one of the following problems:
  • One of the ink cartridges is low or out of ink. Black and all three colors must be available.
  • The paper has already been printed on or is colored paper.
  • Protective tape on a new ink cartridge has not been removed.
  • Contacts on the ink cartridge are not meeting the contacts in the carriage correctly.
  • Cartridge is remanufactured or refilled. Refilled or remanufactured ink cartridges may have been damaged during the refilling process or have clogged ink nozzles.
  • The ink cartridge is defective.
Also, use a fresh piece of paper that has never been printed on for the alignment process or the alignment will fail.

Hope this helps.

Unable to print color pictures.

Double check the number on your old ink cartridge and verify they match the new one. Double check that the sticker protecting the ink cartridge is off, and then try again. If all this is corrct at least take cartridge out and place it back in, it could be a bad connection. Hope this helps
