The problem is the "Y-SUS" board. It is inside the set on the left side with several aluminum heat sinks, under the left side brace bar. You can order this board from Union Electronics at .Search for part number: TNPA3243AB-PA

It lists for about 115$

The problem is with the YSUS board. Also 1 or two fuses (4A) will be blown so you will need to replace those along with the YPPD-J018C Hybrid IC module that is under the large heat-sink. I'm an EE in my day job so I have done this sort of repair from time to time but it can be intimidating unless you have very good soldering skills and a good solder station such as a MetCal. You will need a lot of heat to free the pins before prying this IC up. Failure to do it correctly may lift some of the delicate traces and the new part will not work! When removing the IC I always add leaded solder on these lead-free boards because it flows better. Also adding extra flux and using a Soldapullit Solder Tool works well. You keep adding the solder and sucking it back up...until the pins are relatively clean. Removing the IC still took me about 1/2 hr. to get enough solder sucked up until I finally was able to stick a screwdriver under it and pry it up. Do this gently, on several places on the IC to break it loose. On my board Q1 was blown but since there 4 of these same little semi-conductors, your problem might be Q2, Q3, or Q4? They are easy to spot because they blow apart catastrophically, there was black soot around mine. Also, one of the main reason this part failed is because the white heat sink grease was dry. This means that the heat-sink was not able to adsorb the heat from the board as well anymore and then it just got too hot and failed. So use a good high end thermal grease when you put the new YPPD-J018C part back on the heatsink. Something with silver like Artic Silver will cost about $10.00 a tube. This will make the TV last much longer. The YPPD-J018C part should run you anywhere from $39.95-$49.95 plus shipping. Both Suburban Electronics in MD. and Rich-Tech have the part. Good luck!

I thinks you may be right. All plasma and LCD panel tVs will have cooling fans at the top side. Plasma screens will heat up much more, and if cooling fans stops work, of has damaged, the set will overheat, and awill automatically shut down; because there is a overheat sensor fitted inside it, will sense the heat, and if the set overheats, it will send a signal to the main system control fo the TV; which in turn shut down the whole system. look fans for proper working. If not replace them. OK.

Hi, I have just experienced the exact same loud pop sound. Then no picture or sound. Just died. Spoke with a rep at HP and was told that this (having owned for 4 years) is out of warranty and the "main board" has died. It will cost $629.00 plus tax to repair. This would provide a 90 day warranty on those parts replaced. It's about the same to buy a new tv! So I am throwing this JUNK away and will never buy HP again. Best of luck to you all!

HELP! A growth is taking over my plasma screen!

This sounds like a problem with gas in the panel, early plasmas suffered with similar problems and was due to excessive periods when they were stored face down, a plasma must always be stored verticle and not laid down.

I cannot help you with this but if its under warranty it could be due to either warehouse storage or the carrier.
