I apologize I do not know what is a "braai" but since the category is "grills & smokers" I will proceed as though you were asking about a BBQ
Generally it is safe to suggest non-toxic cleaners like Simple Green because there is almost no chance of being harmed by this non toxic cleaner. However, non-toxic cleaners will need a lot of rubbing and scrubbing ad we usually want a chemical because we do not want to spend all day rubbing and scrubbing. Right?
We have been cleaning, maintaining and repairing barbecues for over 15 years and I still like Easy-Off a lot. Easy-Off is toxic but that means it will break-down greases and dirt and old marinades so they appear to be melting off the grill parts.
Please be sure to only scrub or brush grill parts made of materials that can be treated thus because coated grids (for instance) should not have abrasive brushing or the coating will scratch and oxidation occurs. Use heat, rough, green, 3m pads and degreaser for full safety and wire-wheel or sandpaper for real American stainless.
Anyway, I still like Easy Off after a very long time using hundreds of different agents. However, after cleaning make sure to clean-off the chemicals or burn-off for at least 10 minutes. Chemicals can keep you in the bathroom all week so be sure to rinse if you can (infrared burners cannot get wet) or burn-off the parts so there is no residue of the cleaners.

What to use to clean the burner covers

You can clean them with a Mr. Clean eraser sponge. They cost about $5.00 for a package of two. You can use them with or without cleaning chemicals. They work great!

Having problems with models sutting down. Relates to combustion shut off system. Explain how system works, with corrective action, especially draft system. Pilot ignites, burner operates for second or two...

As a general rule with Rheem gas water heaters, the manufacturer suggests calling trained service technician and their products do not have specific service bulletins.
I cannot explain combustion shut-off adequately. Post question on water heater forum.
http://www.thetankatwaterheaterrescue.com/forums/

Most likely the combustion and combustion parts need cleaning and maintenance, as a start point.
Gas water heaters today require yearly cleaning and maintenance.
That work would cover possible causes and combination of causes: from air in gas line, faulty venting, inadequate air supply, dirty parts, overheating, leaks, exposure to chemicals, corrosion, faulty gas control valve thermostat, sediment build-up.
You have a standing pilot light that is working, so gas supply sounds correct, and ECO is not tripped, so cleaning is major suspect right off.

Light a match under the vent hood and check if smoke drafts immediately upward.
Your water heater vent has a natural upward draft that pulls combustion by-product upward so the poison gas is vented outdoors to kill the world slowly instead of remaining inside the house. If vent is clogged, the air flow might not support combustion. Likewise if water heater does not have adequate incoming air supply, for example a tightly sealed house, then combustion is not supported. Also if you store bleach and pool chemicals and other assorted chemicals in trace amounts in same room or nearby, the burning chemicals will corrode combustion parts so they no longer perform.

My model 501, 30 gal, LPG water heater only makes warm water, is this fixable, or should I think replacement?

Look at the flame and see if it's burning blue or yellow. And then see if it's burning all the time. If the flame is yellow and water heater does not make hot water, the thermostat may keep the flame going all the time and use up your gas.

Poor flame color means you should clean the burner or replace the burner. If water heater is exposed to trace amounts of some chemicals, like bleach or pool chemicals or wax, these chemicals get pulled into the burner and will shorten life of burner assembly and combustion chamber.

If the flame is blue and the water is not hot, then the thermostat is the best suspect. The thermostat is part of the gas valve. The gas valve has a copper tube that extends into the water and reads water temperature. If thermostat reads incorrect temp, then the gas valve needs to be replaced with gas valve from local plumbing supply of Lowes.

If the flame is blue, and it runs all the time, then your tank may have a layer of sediment between the flame and the water, and the sediment has caused water heater to become very inefficient.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Clean-sediment-out-of-water-heater.html

Now to answer your question:
You can turn up the thermostat dial located on front of tank.
Check your flame and how often burner comes on to determine where problem is.
You can buy a gas valve from Lowes for $65 or from plumbing supply and then replace >> you need a couple wrenches and pipe joint compound and about half a day.
You can clean the burner with wire brush and shop vac.
Remove chemicals from same room as water heater.
If the water heater has sediment build-up, then a new water heater is probably best choice.

You can do some things yourself. If the do-it-yourself steps don't work, then get a new water heater, and you know more about maintaining a water heater because you worked on the old one. Save the new water heater manual. Read the manual because it has ordinary information that will save you money long-term.

Running rough. no gas going to front plug. Took carb off cleaned it . cleaned gas tank.put new gas in tank. all lines are clean and free. plug fireing but black and dry.

If your plug is dry, then there is no fuel. This can happen for two reasons: No compression - be sure to get a compression tester and ensure that there is enough compression produced by the engine to enable the engine to run. More than likely, though, there is no fuel getting to the engine. When cleaning carburetors, it is important that you use a chemical dip. Spraying carb cleaner through it is not enough. Be sure to disassemble completely: fuel float and its needle and seat, all jets, all emulsion tubes, all air cut off systems and accelerator pumps, all enrichment circuits (choke), vaccum slide and diaphragm, all air jets, and last but not least - the idle air/fuel screw. If this is the first time the carb has been taken apart you have to drill the cap to get to the screw. once everything is apart, soak all metal parts in the Berryman or equivalent chemical dip solution for at least several hours. After, run hot water, as hot as you can stand over all dipped components and blow out with compressed air. reassemble and enjoy.

Welding aluminum

TIG weding is next to brain surgery as far as CLEAN goes.
You must get your AL clean, either by 1. Clean with a NEW Stainless Steel brush or 2. by using a chemical from the welding house that is made just for that.
Your cup must be clean and your gas flowing at the right amount,no leaks in o-rings or hoses.
Hold your cup more vertical and keep your filler rod in the gas shield always,no in and out movement.
In short you must get everything perfect to get quality Heliarc Al welds.
Good luck, HowardRoark
