There should be a small stop screw to prevent the release knob undoing completely. Did you remove the knob and hand wheel?
If so remove it again and ensure the drive belt is fitted on the hand wheel, there is a friction washer that needs to be located in the slots on the shaft before the knob is refitted.

SOURCE: Bobbin winder will not turn..

Without knowing what type of machine you have its hard to determine if the problem is mechanical or electronic. If the bobbinwinder has its own motor than its probably electronic and it could be a bad motor or circuitboard. Sounds like this could be it.
The minimum service charge could be about 50.00 but this won't include the more expensive part. You might look up Sidewinder bobbinwinders which is a small separate unit you can purchase in most fabric stores or online for about 20.00 and just wind bobbins separate from the machine.
Good luck.

SOURCE: Kenmore sewing maching model 158.904

I bought mine at Walmrt. They are a Singer product and says it will fit most machines. There are 2 belts in the package and the small one is for bobbin winders. I have a Kenmore 158,904 and it fits perfect.

SOURCE: can't tighten clutch on Kenmore zig zag sewing machine.

The clutch has fallen off the shaft. Remove the very small screw in the clutch release screw to remove the clutch release. Place the clutch(round thing with ears on it) back on the shaft with the center ears pointing towards the outside. Put the clutch release screw back on. Tighten it to make sure it works
properly. Put the small screw back in the clutch release screw and test it again. If it will not tighten or release properly, remove the clutch ,rotate it180 degrees and try it again. This should solve your problem.

SOURCE: Bobbin winder will not spin on sewing machine

If you take the top off you will see a tiny rubber tire that engages the winder to the handwheel. Over time they get really soft are really hard and disintgrate. If you have a local sewing shop take the old one in and get a new one to slip on it takes only a few minutes and cost usually less that $2.00

SOURCE: My elna sewing machine bobbin

If the fly wheel is going around then the clutch isn't disengaged to wind the bobbin, you need to pull out the flywheel on your model to disengage the clutch for bobbin winding.

tally_girl_59.jpg
Take thread from thread spool across to bobbin winder thread guide, then back to bobbin and thread the tail through the hole on top of the bobbin. Place bobbin onto spindle on top of machine and then push it against the stop to engage the bobbin winding motor. HOld the thread tail up and start winding slowly until the bobbin core has been covered including the starting point. Stop and trim off the thread tail with scissors. COntinue winding bobbin and give the thread a nudge if needed to wind evening top middle and bottom of the bobbin. A good smooth wind is important. Also don't wind at full speed and keep an eye on the thread reel that the thread is coming off, you don't want it bouncing around as this will **** the thread and stretch then relax it affecting your bobbin wind.

Obviously if you know this and the bobbin winding mechanisim is just not working, then it will need a service/replacement by an Elna repair person.

How do I add thread to the bobbin on Singer sewing machine 3114?

Your repair shop will have to fix the handwheel, but you can still wind your bobbin. UNTHREAD the machine completely, and take the needle out. Set up your thread to wind the bobbin, and push the winder over until it clicks. Wind your bobbin. I don't have a picture of your model; this is just standard.

Singer 362 bobbin

It appears from the manual (see pages 9-10, which are on 11-12 of the pdf version) that it is necessary to disengage the hand wheel (loosen the center knob) with the bobbin winding lever all the way to the left, before putting the bobbin on the winder spindle. Put the bobbin on the spindle, then set the winding lever to the right position to engage the spindle drive. Do not tighten the hand wheel knob until after the bobbin is wound and the lever is moved back the left to permit bobbin removal.

If you are following these directions exactly, or you can't get the hand wheel knob loose, you have a mechanical problem to solve. You may need a stronger hand to loosen the knob, or something in the bobbin winder is bent, out of adjustment, or jammed with foreign material. If you are mechanically inclined, you may want to remove the top cover of the machine for inspection.

Is the hand knob and the clutch the same thing? It won't wind the bobbin.

I don't know that machine specifically, but generally, there is a wheel or disk or something inside the hand-wheel that is the clutch. It needs to be disengaged to wind the bobbin. Here are some options: 1. if there is a wheel with serrations on the edge, turn it clockwise until the hand wheel moves freely. 2. if there is a button, press it until you hear a click and the wheel turns freely. or 3. if there is a disk with a depression on one side of it, press in on the depression as though it were a button.

BTW, don't you have a manual for it? If not, it's available for download at: http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals/search
just put 132 into the search window and there it is.

Need to put bobin in a merritt 4530

Flip the presser switch up to raise the presser foot. Turn the hand wheel counterclockwise until the needle is in its highest position.
  • 2Hold the hand wheel in place with your left hand while turning the hand wheel knob counterclockwise with your right hand to loosen the hand wheel knob.
  • 3Place the desired spool of thread on the spool pin so that the pin fits all the way through the hole in the center of the spool. Put the spool holder onto the end of the spool pin that is sticking through the spool of thread and press firmly to ensure that the spool holder keeps the spool in place.
  • 4Grasp the end of the thread and hold it taut between the thumb and index fingers of both hands. Snap the taut section of thread into the thread guide post located to the left of the spool pin.
  • 5Pull the end of the thread gently. Wrap the thread around the bobbin winder tension disk near the left front on top of the machine, starting at the side of the tension disk facing you and wrapping around in a clockwise direction.
  • 6Poke the end of the thread through the small hole in the bobbin from the inside out so that the loose end of the thread sticks through the top of the bobbin. Put the bobbin on the spindle, or bobbin winder, and gently slide the bobbin winder to the right.
  • 7Hold the loose end of the thread in place while pressing down on the foot pedal to start the machine. Hold the foot pedal down until the bobbin is as full as desired. The machine will automatically stop once the bobbin has reached capacity.
  • 8Cut the loose end of the thread using scissors. Slide the bobbin winder to the left and remove the bobbin. Hold the hand wheel in your left hand and tighten the hand wheel knob with your right hand by turning it clockwise

Hand wheel & needle do not move

it's possible that something has come loose or broken on the inside of the machine.
the name & model number of the machine is not shown, if the machine is mechanical it probably has a handwheel clutch,, make sure the smaller inner knob is tight. then try to sew again
if you still can't sew then I suggest you have the machine checked, because it's not reponding like it should

Kenmore sewing machine Model 1602: I was filling a bobbin and when I went back to sewing - the needle won't go up and down. Motor runs when I press on the footpad. It is as if the clutch is stuck as well...

Sound like you need to take it out of bobbin winder mode. Suggest looking for a way to engage the clutch. Turn the center knob on hand wheel and or move the bobbin winding post back to postion.

The center hand wheel should move about 1/3 turn towards you to look it back into place.

I have a Kenmore as well ,I hope that this will work for you ,too bad that I don't live close to you otherwise I would give a hand. This is the way I fill the bobbin on mine. Mine is located on the top right ,I put the thread into the bobbin hole leaving a small piece of thread hanging for me to hold when I begin the winding, I pull the wheele out to stop the needle from moving while winding, when I am done just push it back in .I run the thread from the spool into the top left it looks like a U turn with a screw go around that without winding just pull it into the bobbin hole. press the foot control and it will begin winding .
