Question about Dell Inspiron 8500 Notebook
I have tried pressing f2, f12, f8, ctl alt+delete, removing the battery and using an external monitor and nothing works. It sounds as though it could be starting up and I can hear the fan. Previous to this there were times that it would freeze and turn its self off... Is there any way you could help me restore my laptop, my important documents and sentimental data??? Please tell me this can be resolved!
There should be a button on the keyboard, usually with a bad diagram of a monitor on it, along with something like an "FN" button, that allows you to switch between the LCD, External, and Both. Once in a while video drivers get a little flakey, and you have to use this to get your screen back.
There might be something in BIOS as well. Your user manual should describe this

About your data, you can restore them, and about the laptop, try to remove the memory modules and clean it, then reinstall the memory and power up the laptop;

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

The most common reason is memory. Try reseating (remove and reinsert) the memory, first.
Power off the computer and disconnect all cables. Flip the laptop to the back. Remove the battery. The memory cover has 8 screws. Remove the memory modules at a 25 degree angle and reinsert them by pushing them down firmly by the ends.
If reseating the memory doesn't solve your problem, one module may be bad. So, remove and test each module one at a time.
Hope this helps.

May I know whether the Hard Drive is listed in the BIOS? Try reinstalling the Windows using the Windows OS disc.

Most likely a hard drive issue. Might have a corrupt boot sector, might be a failing hard drive. Remove HDD and see if you can boot to a windows CD, if you can then the issue is with the drive.
