MY DYSON DC23 CANISTER VACUUM HAS NO POWER.

My vacuum just lost power one day. The last time I used it a few days ago I had no problems and now it won't turn on and it seems like it has no power.

SOURCE: power button not engaging...vacuum will not stay

The power button is worn out and needs to be replaced. That vacuum is pretty simple. So even if you don't know how to take it apart it shouldn't cost much to have it repaired.

SOURCE: Power shuts off on my dyson dc17 animal

I had the same issue. Got on the phone with Dyson. THe vacuum has a safety feature where if the motor gets too hot it cuts off. You have to leave it for 45 minutes or so and then it will work again. There is an underlying issue though. My problem was the black gasket thats in the debris bin shifted, probably from when emptying i pushed it on something. The black gasket should actually hang off the bottom like a skirt and the 2 groves should fit in on the groves of the gray mechanism. This seal is what provides 100% suction. Because of this..my vaccumm has been accumulating pet hair by the belt which i hear alot of people talking about and especially in the filter area. This is because I broke the seal by not having the gasket in place properly and it wasnt sucking 100%. They are sending me a complete new cyclone unit which has the debris catcher as well as she said its probably so caked up with debris it will never work again 100%. no questions asked they are sending it to me free of charge.

So if you remove the clear cyclinder debris catch thing all you will have is the purple cyclone on top and on the bottom is the black rubber gasket....

SOURCE: I have a Dyson vacuum. The vacuum won't stay

My vacuum had this exact same problem, but was out of warranty because it was remanufactured. Thankfully, it's a very quick, five-minute fix.

  1. UNPLUG The Vacuum!
  2. Remove the cannister.
  3. Extend the handle and remove it.
  4. Remove the two torx (T-15) screws behind the power button, where the handle normally stows.
  5. There are four tabs holding the front plate containing the power button on; use your screwdriver to release them.
  6. Gently pull the front plate off.
  7. The switch on the right is the power button. Remove it, try clicking it a few times; if it sticks, great! Replace it and reassemble, otherwise you'll need to replace it.

SOURCE: Loss of suction?

Mine was doing something similar. When standing upright, suction was strong through the hose. When I lowered the handle to sweep the floor, the bar underneath would spin, but the suction seemed horrible and the dirt inside the window wasn't spinning/cycloning like it used to. I called Dyson Support and they had me lay the vacuum on it's left side. Now look underneath and you'll see a clear hose, one end connected to the upper part of the vacuum and the other to the lower. I removed the tube and it was completely clogged, especially at the point that it connects to the bottom part of the vaccum. After that I reconnect and it sucks like the day I got it. Dyson support is still sending me a new "internal hose" but I don't think I need it.

Stopped working during use. Cooled down, been two days, still no power at all. Could it be a fuse? If so, how do you change it? Thanks!

Might be a fuse but probably not. Could be an internal thermal breaker or thermal fuse but internal breaks in the power cord are common faults with portable appliances.

If you are competent and can work safely it needs systematically checking through with a multimeter.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC23. This model doesn't include a traditional user-replaceable belt - the drive system is engineered to last for the lifetime of the machine.

If your machine is a DC23 Motorhead, please take a look at the video above to clear any obstructions from the brush bar and cleaner head, and to reset the machine.

If your DC23 includes an air-driven Turbine head, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide to make sure everything is correct with your vacuum: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc23/dc23-animal/my-machine-is-not-working/turbine-head-not-working-properly/check-the-plunger

It might not be the filter! The hose, canister and suction vanes on the motor also can cause that smell!!

    Dyson dc23 lost suction

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC23, but I'm sure we can help. If your vacuum doesn't seem to have as much power as it should do, this is likely to be due to a blockage in the Turbine head, wand or hose. In addition to this, the filter may need washing.

To check for any blockages, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

    http://content.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1298&product=DC23-TURBINEHEAD-US

In normal use, we recommend washing the filter at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

I'm confident this will resolve the issue, but if you'd like further assistance, please give our Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

How can I eliminate dog smell in my DC23

On a cotton ball, put a few drops of eucalyptus oil, or lavender oil. Then suck the cotton ball up the vacuum. It will leave the vacuum smelling nice, and will kill any flea eggs as well.

How many filters in the Dyson DC23 canister

    Hi Julie,

In normal use, DC23's filter should be washed at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for it to dry completely before replacing it.

The HEPA post-motor filter does not need maintenance, and is designed to last the lifetime of the machine.

If you have any further questions about using or maintaining your machine, please call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

My Dyson DC21 powerhead shuts off on its own. There is no blockage, I have reset the brushbar several times and cleaned the filters. I am frustrated! I want this problem fixed, I have had my vacuum well over 5 years :(
