Yes it is right what uffan_saeed said, but there's is no need to start again the game without the memory. Even if you start it with the memory put on the play, you just have to, when need to save, pull out the memory before entering save screen and when you choose yes put the memory inside the slot et voila! You won't loose your progress. Glad to help!!!

One trick that I found working every time is that turn on the console, pull out memory card, insert game disk and start the game. When the game menu shows up put memory card in. From there onwards games will be loaded and saved properly without this issue hopefully
