My Singer Sewing Machine runs too fast. Is there a way to slow it down?

what type of machine do you have. I have two that I operate with buttons and it has a little slide button to speed or slow down I don't know why it should run to fast with a foot pedal because you control the speed with your foot you may want to check to see if there is any trash that has gotten in the foot and somehow not allowing the foot to come back up

Inhereted a New Home model 920 without instructions. Motor sounds like it wants to work but is very slow and barely moves-unable to use, Please advise.

Take it in for service. Too many folks buy machines and do not use them. This is worse than anything you can do to them is NOT use them. With long periods of non-use, always plug in and run motor forward and backward for 10 minutes at least.
This one sounds like it's in need of service and a good lubrication and tune up.

Baby lock serger motor slows down after sewing 20 minutes. Why?

Call your local service shop. Baby Locks in closets for years usually have this problem The manual recommends annual maintenance by a pro, and they will oil the internal lobes of the feed dog apparatus. It cannot be oiled from the outside, nor with covers off, but must be taken apart. If those lobes lose the oil and heat up you will feel "surging" then slowing repeatedly -- fast then slow then fast etc -- until the lobes over heat and sort of weld themselves to that small barrel looking case. So a Baby Lock can sew, then temporarily be sluggish then later slow till sluggish; and at worst, seem to be doing everything right BUT not advancing the cloth -- that's when the worst damage is done and professional repair is needed. In PA might cost $150 to fix. $70 in parts; $80 in labor (2012 prices)
Been there, done that.

When I turned my machine on after a couple of days of rest, it seems to have developed amnesia. It no longer knows how to do any of the stretch stitches. It stubbornly refuses to do anything but straight...

Like all computer things it might be for ever wondered about but do this... UNPLUG the machine from the wall outlet and let it sit for 20 minutes. When you replug it, it should be fine.

Babylock Serger loosing power

Your problem is probably the stitch length adjustment cam (located on the left side of the machine) To fix this problem you will need to remove the small plastic cap (with red arrow) covering the screw securing the cam. It is usually also necessary to remove the connecting rod/sleeve that the cam rides in. Once both of these parts have been removed, you will need to carefully separate them and resurface the inside of the sleeve. This can be done with a very fine (500grit or higher) emery paper. Once the cam fits inside the sleeve without binding, reassemble using sewing machine oil or lithium grease and adjust feed dog timing.

Pfaff 360 automatic slows and stops after only minutes of use

Pfaff 360's don't like to sit, they like to drink. . .. oil.
Set top knob "C" to 0
Right top (zig-zag knob) set to 4, lever below but on the same dial points straight down. Set stitch length to 4. Run 5 minutes medium speed.

After that lift off the top cover and spray inside with "Tri-flow", then run a hairdryer on it for 20 minutes to warm up or set near a warm lamp overnight. Run daily 5-10 minutes and exercise the right knob between 0 and 4 (zig-zag). It should come back to working with oil, time, and heat.

Machine just stops but power is on

that is the power board (in base plate) you need a rebuilt base plate. Unless you can rebuild the power board. You can buy a rebuilt board and send your in and receive a core credit. It still will probably run $200 to get one. It will also come with a 2 year warranty.
