Electric cord chipped power shorting, how do we fix it

You will need a wire stripper, solder, solder flux, heat shrink tubing, a heat gun (hair dryer will do) and a soldering iron.

1. Cut the cord where the chip is.
2. Strip the wire on both sides by about 1/8". You should have 4 exposed wires from the two wires inside the cord.
3. Apply some soldering flux to the exposed end.
4. Heat the exposed wires and apply solder. This is call tinning and will help when you are attaching the wires.
5. Cut the heat shrink tube about 1/2" long, you will need two. Insert the heat shrink tube to both wires that is to be soldered.
6. Solder the wires together by applying heat and attaching the wires when the solder melt.
7. move the heat shrink over the soldered area and use a heat gun to heat the tube. It will shrink and provide insulation as well.

**If you don't have soldering experience, you might want to take it to an experienced technician. Bad solder or poor insulation can cause expose wires and poses an electric shock hazard!

Why is the slap stick on my suv not working

I have an '04 Outlander and the manual slap stick stopped working. I also noticed the Drive light was not on when in auto drive. This is a common problem with this model and a relatively easy fix. Tools you will need are a small flat head and medium cross head scredriver, solder gun and electronic grade solder, small heat shrink tubing. Remove the entire center console - start at the rear by removing the 4 philips screws in the center arm rest compartment, remove the cover plate underneath the hand brake and the 2 side panels on either side at the front. Remove the shift knob (2 screws behind the small cover plate on the front of the knob - remove with small flat head screwdriver). Remove all remaining screws and the rear section, then slide the center section over the handbrake followed by the front section.

You will see a small switch on the shift lever with 3 wires (Black, Blue and Red). Most likely one or more have become detached, at this point it is best to unsolder any that are still attached because they will likely break in the near future! Remove any old solder and wire from the 3 contacts with the solder gun on the switch and tin each with fresh solder. Strip about 1/8" on each of the 3 wires and tin each with solder. Slide about 1/2-3/4" of the heat shrink tubing onto each wire. Solder the wires back to the swtich in this order:

Black - top
Blue - center
Red - bottom

Start at the top and work down, and after soldering each slide the heat shrink tubing over the solder joint and shrink by applying the solder gun - this will provide better mechanical support and help prevent future breakage.

Reassemble the center console in the reverse order of removal - make sure you have no screws left over!!

Good luck - hope this helps.

Jbl roxy over ear headphones ref 430 need to install new cord. how do i open cans?

Hello.
Headphone speakers stop functioning properly when the wireconnections to the speaker are broken. This problem often develops when theheadphone cord gets jerked while being worn. The solder connection might alsodetach over time if it was not properly manufactured. The wire can bereconnected to the speaker with a soldering iron to repair the headphone. Beaware, though, that headphones are not designed to be user maintained in thisfashion. In some cases, it is difficult to get to the speaker due to the casingdesign.
Instructions and tools needed
Screwdriver or butter knife (depending on headphone design),Soldering iron, Electrical solder
1 Plug in the solderingiron. It takes a few minutes for it to get warm enough to be used.
2 Unscrew the screws holdingthe headphone casing over the speakers. This step applies only to models thatuse screws in the casing.
3 Insert the end of the butterknife into the seam on the headphone ear pieces. Pry the two halves of thecasing apart. This step is performed only on headphone models that do not usescrews in the casing.
4 Touch the tip of thesoldering iron to the electrical solder. A small drop should melt onto the tipof the iron.
5 Touch the tip of the soldering iron to the end of thedetached speaker wire inside the headphone speaker cavity. Try to get an evencoating of solder around the exposed metal end of the wire. The soldersolidifies on the wire once the soldering iron is removed.
6 Touch the end of the wire tothe solder on the metal tab attached to the speaker.
7 Touch the tip of the solderingiron to where the wire and tab connect. The heat of the soldering iron meltsthe solder on the wire and tab together. This repairs the broken connectionbetween the wire and speaker.
8 Replace the speaker casingonto the headphone. It should snap back into place for models without screws Thanks.

Rotate the iTrip AutoPilot FM Transmitter controller so that its buttons are facing up and its data cable is on the left side. The data cable wires attach to a row of contact points along the left side of the circuit board as follows (from top to bottom):

1 = Purple
2 = White
3 = Blue
4 = Red
5 = Black
6 = Brown
7 = Green

I AM CHANGING THE DRIVER DOOR ON MY HONDA ACCORD AND I HAD TO CUT THE WIRES AND I NEED HELP PUTTING IT BACK TOGEHER

You will need a soldering iron and some acid core solder. Skin back about 1/2-3/4 inch of wire on each wire, add a peice of shrink tube, twist the wires together and solder them together, side the shrink tube over the soldered area and heat the tube to shrink, or use some electrical tape. Make sure everything is taped up well to keep water out.

Your a big help so far and I see a coin looking super thin but soldered I think. What remove it and solder it back? Wait several minutes and then reset the password to Bios?

Some BIOS batteries do have wires soldered to them but the easiest way to disconnect is remove the plug from the oBo at the other end of the wires. Saves soldering.

Or you could look for the BIOS jumper pins which should be located near the battery (three Pins) Pin 1&2 will be shorted with a jumper. Move jumper to pins 2&3 for 30 secs and move back. Job done.

Need ground wire reconnected

You need to solder the wire or wires back on the board. There is a red wire and a black wire used to power the backlight. They go to two solder pads on the board that are near each other. You should be able to see where the wire has broken off. If you don't have the equipment or haven't done this before ask a friend.

Adding a remote USB port

I solved my own problem.1 I removed radio1.gif face 2 I removed back cover of radio face to expose USB solder joints.3 I drilled a hole in the back cover of radio face over solder joints 4 I drilled a hole in front cover of radio behind face plate and lined it up with hole in back cover of face plate.5 I cut the male plug off of a USB extension cord and ran it through factory notch on the back of radio,through drilled hole on front panel of radio, thruogh drilled hole on back cover of radio face and soldered wires to back side of USB plug in. Wire colors from top to bottom are Red, White, Green, Black. Solder sheild to any of the three larger solder joints next to these connections. Make sure wires are not touching any other connections. Put radio back together and add screw that locks face to radio. Face can no longer be removed with this wire added. Now I can plug in my 8gb memory stick1.gif,hide it under the dash and have a clean looking installation.
