SOURCE: 3 month whirlpool refrig. whole system seems to be shutting down.

You most likely have a bad pc board. If I were you I would call Whirlpool and have them send a technician out and fix it under warranty. The number should be on your paper work that came with unit. If not, call 1-800-555-1212 and ask for the number. I could try to help fix but if you mess with it, the warranty will be voided.

SOURCE: the ice maker continues to jam. after this happens

Sounds like the mold heater or something in the mold heater circuit (mold thermostat, heater switch, etc.) has failed.

These ice makers are cheap, and can be purchased from Lowe's or Home Depot, if not from Sears. Just make sure the new one has the same plug on it that the old one uses. Don't splice the wires to make the new one work where the old one was!

SOURCE: Fridge makes clinking noise periodically

If the noise is only heard when you activate the icemaker, then your problem is probably with the icemaker. Some icemakers make more noise than others. If it's unbearable, replace the icemaker.

Where can I get a repair manual for a Hotpoint Fridge

Hi,

First of all, the model number you gave is not complete. But check you defrost system in the freezer, when the refer section stops cooling, your evaporator in the freezer is possibly full of ice and the fan won't move air through ice. When the refer sections fails to cool, check for a fan in the freezer. If it works, you have a defrost problem and is occurs every 3 - 5 days. The unit should defrost once or twice a day. Good Luck

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
Without your model number here is what most likely has happened:
The automatic defrosting system is not working due to a component failure.

The components of the automatic defrost system are:
1. Defrost control
2. Defrost heater
3. Defrost thermostat.
4. Wiring to inter-connect 1 - 3 above.

What your currently doing is a manual defrost cycle every 3 weeks because ice blocks the air-flow across the evaporator in the freezer compartment so everything starts warming up in the fresh food section first and finally the freezer as the ice block gets larger.

FYI you can unplug it... remove the contents from the freezer...use an external directed into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours to do the same process your doing in 24 hours. Until the automatic defrost system is repaired you should do a manual defrost at least every 4 days.
Most units are on an automatic defrost cycle of 6 - 8 hours (usually) all the way up to 10.35 hours per cycle. Yours just is not working at all.

That is a Whirlpool module type ice maker that seems to have has been so strict with their information I will need to give the manual's another way about a 5 year life span. I have some manuals but because Whirlpool stopped letting people post what they believe is their property. I guess I need to only understand but if I place them here I will lose my subscription. Click Here=> My E-Mail and I will send it to you. May have to fill out the capsha first. Below is what I am talking about as far as how they work and yes I have the schematics and tech sheets, I will look to hear from you, Thanks, Sea Breeze

From time to time stops working and making a noise like boling water

A refrigerator must defrost 2 - 3 times a day. It does this via the automatic defrost cycle. When the cycle starts alll motors shut off and there is a heating element that is in the evaporator / freezer section of your unit. That heating element melts the ice until the 60 Deg F bi-metal thermostat cycles and terminated the automatic defrost cycle. During the defrost cycle is is normal to hear a hissing sound as the melting ice drips on the heating element assy. Addiionally you may hear coolant gurgles as the unit shuts off to start the defrost cycle and the coolant system equalizes the internal pressures between the pressure and return lines. Again another normal sound. If your unit did not stop to defrost 2 - 3 times a day in a matter of 3 to 4 days you would have a large block of ice in the back of your freezer section and the evaporator fan blades would be hitting that ice block. The freezer would say cool yet probably no longer make ice. Also the fresh food compartment would start warming up. Hopefully this resolves your concerns. If you need more assistance just respond to this post and I will help you.

Yes, I can tell you that your unit is frozen up and has a bad defrost system in it now. This is a simple repair and your fan is hitting the frozen ice. You should unplug it for a few days and let the ice thaw out completely before replacing the defrost system.

Kenmore fridge stopped cooling

sounds like its freezing up on you. check the drain outlet and make sure that its clear. also i would replace the defrost timer on this unit because its suppose to bring on the heaterfs to melyt the ice so thaat yoiu don't have to. they are around 30 mdollars at the appliancew repair store and all you need is the model number and serial number for the uit. after you get it it's either on the very top of the refrigerator section or in the very back. It has 4 wires going to it. good luck.

Refrigerator buzzing for 10 seconds every 4 or 5 minutes

Buzzing is usually a fan, like one in the freezer, or back bottom - for cooling the freon. The compressor over-heat usually will make a single click (off) and a few minutes later a click (on). If the fan in the freezer stops working well, the freezer will frost up and the fridge section will not be cold enough.
