Question about Hotpoint WMA54 Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Drum not going round at all

It wobbled a lot yesterday, then it made a low squeaky noise when it was spinning. But today, no spinning, agitating or rotating at all. But it does all the filling up and draining of water. Other people reckon it may be the belt or the brushes, but would like further clarification. Thanking you in advance.

SOURCE: Hotpoint WMA35 - water will not empty and will not spin

Hi Debbie

Yes your machine will not spin if the water cannot drain... I do not have the machine in front of me but I would presume to think that you have a blockage in the water pump (or drain pump)

There is a normally a small pvc or plastic filter just before the pump and this would stop most big things entering the pump.. if not there could be a coin or button stuck in your pumps impeller.

Unfortunately if you are not technically inclined you will find it hard to access and open the pump otherwise just open the back plate on the machine (after removing the power socket from the wall) the pump is located at the bottom left and fairly easy to remove and open the plastic casing.

If this does not solve your problem please give more info........

SOURCE: hotpoint wf250 drum wont spin

Well if you see the drum move in the wash cycle than the belt is still attached.Your door latch is the first thing to check. And the control board is the next and most likely problem.

SOURCE: No drum movement during wash/spin cycle, although it fills/drains

brushes need replacing in motor. Usually cheap enough to buy and do yourself.

SOURCE: Fills, does not agitate, drains, spins, fills,

grab the agitator at the base and give it a quick push upward..remove and see if the white dome with bolt holding it down is stripped on the inside where it splines onto the transmission shaft. :)

The tub continues to go off balance in spin cycle. Starts out smooth then starts to wobble terribly til the UL shows and shuts down. Support rods are good

There is a little device inside the washer that allows the agitator to spin independent of the drum. If this gets stuck, the washer will try to spin the whole drum instead of just the agitator. This will cause the washer to think the load is too large or out of balance, causing the error code. On some Whirlpools this device is just a washer.

Washing machine knocking.

Does the drum wobble quite a bit or does it look normal? If it's wobbling it could be the drum casing knocking the internal structure. Might need a new drum spring if this is the case

Washer does not agitate or spin. makes loud noise when it's on:filling, trying to agitate or spin and emptying.

Possible that the INLET valve is also making noise due to faulty coil, check , confirm by disconnecting the valve.

It is so common that the washing machine can make terrible noise in many ways and is a common fault. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that machine is vibrating when it is running then the motor /drum suspension has to be inspected. Since these fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you look for the noise with a good inspection lamp. Manually turn the motor and drum and listen for the noise, if so the motor bearings, the drum agitator shaft and fittings must be checked. Also the suspensions which include the shock absorbers and springs, the body clamps must be checked to be in correct alignment and not changed in position. Tightening of the mounting is also very important. Finally in most cases a drop of OIL or smear of grease on the moving parts cane solve most issues.

If the machine is smoking then the motor or heating element must be checked and must be taken seriously. , if the motor is warm or hot then the capacitor must be checked. If not the motor can be defective.

My ge wpsf4170 top load washer agitator spins but the drum itself stays stationary.

If the drum spins but the agitator doesn't agitate then its the dog(lil arm things) that grab the agitator ridges to work. If the drum doesn't spin at all its the belt under the drum. it's either broke the belt or has worn and slipped off or the drum was way off balance and kicked it off(belt) . way cheaper to fix either than buy new and most new ones have no agitator anymore so how does it clean better? In my opinion, they don't so I get the parts online at repair clinic and do it my self. Sorry Maytag Repair man. But I saved a lot

My machine has been very noisy for a few weeks and today I put on a cycle and the drum didn't spin at all. Any ideas, ny machine is 10 years old!!

Noise could be worn drum bearings in which case pulley would wobble knocking off belt, hence no spin......

Drum appears to be loose and makes a lot of noise when on the spin cycle

With the washer empty, spin the wash tub by hand. The drum should be spin true without any noticeable wobbling and spin without much noise. If it wobbles or makes any kind of rubbing or banging noise as you turn it by hand. The problem is that the spider support arms are broken. It is an expensive repair job since the washer has to be completely torn apart and the wash drum needs to be replaced. Get a few estimates before deciding whether to repair or replace. Sorry.

Washer is loud, and won't spin or agitate

check the motor bushes, and also check for bearings in drum you can check this by lifting the inner drum up and down if you feel a knocking noise then this will be the bearings have worn.

Agitator ''dogs'' not gripping, agitator spins freely; tub rocks

Likely a broken dog itself was making the noise. They should all be replaced.
