Question about InFocus ScreenPlay 4805 Multimedia Projector

2 Answers

Infocus 4805 Hello I was messing with the menu screen after watching a movie.  The screen froze, and I could not turn off the projector with the remote.  I turned the machine off, on the unit instead.  The next time I tried to start up the machine it sounds normal, it warms up, it beeps and then it bulb does not fire.  It then sounds like it goes into cool down but nothing really happens  The green light on the top is still green.  I took the projector apart, and the fan that cools the bulb does not seem to work.  It tries to spin, makes a feeble attempt, and makes a sound like a motor under pressure, that cant get going.  I don't know if the fan is the entire reason for the problem or if there are a few problems. Thanks Tim

So what do you do if the fan is alright?

I think the problem is the ECA controller (main board). It is through this that the fans are powered. Try to measure the voltage supplied to it (CN377 on the board for the larg lamp fan CN376 for the smaller fan), it shouldn't be less then 5v this can only be achieved if you activate the lamp door switch by jamming a piece of card board in it and powering the projector up. Take caution, and don't touch anything else, high power voltages are also present. You could also try to supply the fan with an external supply 6 to 12 volts after you unplug it from the main board, to make sure the fan is OK making sure of the correct polarity, red wire is +, black is -.

Powering On
  • If your InFocus 4805 projector is having a hard time powering on or doesn't power on at all, it could be one of two things. Due to the extreme temperature of the lamp that causes the temperature of the projector to rise, every InFocus 4805 projector has a cooling system. Check your projector's cooling solution, as it may need to be replaced. Also check the projector's fan---if the fan doesn't spin, the unit will not turn on. If the problem is the fan, you'll have to get it replaced. You can do this at the same place you bought your projector.
  • The Lamp
  • If your InFocus 4805 Projector powers on but does not project any light, the lamp will need to be replaced. All projector lamps must be replaced at some point---how often usually depends on how much use the device gets. Simply order a replacement lamp, unscrew the old one and screw the new one in. The projector will then work like new.
  • Color Wheel
  • If your InFocus 4805 projector powers on and is displaying images but the colors on the images appear warped or are not in the proper places, your "color wheel" will need to be replaced. The color wheel is a small device that essentially acts like a prism. Light is projected through it and it displays the appropriate colors on screen the way they appear in the original video source. Order a replacement color wheel that fits your model and use your instruction manual as a guide as you swap the old one out and put the new one in.

Infocus 4805 Lamp will not ignite after new bulb and reset.

it there is no high-pitched squeal when it starts up, the colorwheel needs replacing. the lamp won't light without it. the part is under $50, but installation is quite involved.

    Hello David,
The best way to find the best price is to do some hunting/research. Google "infocus 4805 lamp"
and wade through to find the best price.
You will find instructions on the lamp replacement procedure in the manual. If you dont have the user manual browse to www.projectorcentral.com and search infocus 4805 and on their spcifications page there is a "user manual" Acrobat PDF icon.
click on the icon to open the manual in pdf format

    No color

Color wheel disc is broken and not repairable, problem is unless you know someone that can get the part you have to take your projector to an authorised service centre.
