I don't see my question but this could be a repeat. My screen states hit F2 or F12 to start but neither of my F keys will work. Please help. Thank you.

F2 or F12 or Delete gets you into the BIOS. Why do you want to go there? To boot normally just power down and back up. Leave the Function keys alone unless you have a reason to go to the BIOS. You can create a lot of havoc in there!

The only function key you might need is F8 which you keep tapping as the computer boots. That gets you into Boot Normally, Boot with Last Known good configuration or Boot to Safe Mode.

How do i press the f12 key without turning the wifi off?

You can set the function keys to act as "function Keys" or to work on the pictures that are printed on the function keys. To change it you need to enter the BIOS by pressing a key during the initial boot up of your computer. It will show you on the screen what to press as you boot it up, you usually only have a few seconds. If you don't know how to do it for your computer check your owners manual for how to enter BIOS, once in BIOS look for a setting to "change action key mode" or a reference to function keys. Change this setting then save changes and reboot your computer, that should solve your problem.

Add boot option and change boot to usb

You need to change boot options in BIOS. Press required F key during boot. Look on the screen since Function keys vary with systems. In boot options make USB 1st. Save and reboot.

Note: Some systems have an boot option during startup. Thus eliminating the need for BIOS change. Again, look on the screen for F key.

SATELLITE U205 ....IS ITPOSSIBLE TO BOOT FROM AN EXTERNAL USB DVD DRIVE

Shut your computer down and remove the power cord.

Replace the power cord and press the "Power" button to restart it.

Watch the screen carefully for a message about computer setup.

Most computers use one of the function keys, which are aligned across the top of the keyboard, to access the computer's setup utility, but each manufacturer uses a different key.

For instance, HP computers generally use the F1 or F10 keys, while many Dell computers use the F12 key.

Press the appropriate function key to enter the computer's setup program, then scroll through the list of options until you see "Boot Order."

The exact location of the boot order option varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, but it is often located under the Advanced menu.

Highlight the "USB Devices" option and press the up arrow key until that device is first on the boot order list.

This will force the computer to look at the external DVD drive first when it boots up.

Use the "Esc" key to exit the setup menu. Choose the "Save settings and exit" option and allow the computer to reboot.

It will now boot from the external DVD drive.

Hope this helps

How restart laptop using f bottons

You don't restart a laptop using the Function Keys (F1 thru F12). You restart the laptop by hitting the power button. The function keys will allow you to boot the laptop in SAFE MODE if you repeatedly hit the F8 key until you see the Safe Mode option after you hit the power button. Function keys will also allow you to change the boot order, go into the BIOS or Setup to change things also. You need to state your problem as to what is going on with your laptop.

Linux mint 12 won't boot from CD

Restart your computer, press repetedly a key to enter BIOS, normally Del, go to Advanced BIOS Features probably and change to boot primarly from CD/DVD (1st Boot Device CD/DVD , or something like that), save and exit BIOS, and restart your computer with Linux Mint CD inside. Be aware that if you make wrong changes in BIOS, you could damage your computer.

Cant install new hard drive

Usually, this issue is caused by pressing F12 multiple times to access the 1 time boot menu.  This can cause the keyboard buffer to fill up and the keyboard will not respond.  Resolution:  Press F12 ONLY one time at boot.
If this is not the issue, then the other main cause is having an INTERNET keyboard that has alternate Function Key functions (These will be listed on the front edge of the Function keys and there will be an extra key called an F-Lock) This type of keyboard has the ALTERNATE function of the F-Keys enabled by default, you need to press the F-Lock key to enable the normal F-Key function.
