8gb usb shows 4mb

My toshiba 8gb memory only shows 4mb of space. Already tried formatting it using different programs but it is still 4mb. I tried looking at the partition, it does not show any partition.

SOURCE: toshiba 2 gb flash drive showing 0 disk space

You can only format these drives in mode FAT16 or FAT32.
Try to format it in FAT32 mode and let Windows choose the default sectors for you. This is the better solution.
As I can see, the operating system recognise your drive that mean the correct driver was loaded.
After a new format whith the correct params if your flash drive shows the same thing 0 disk space 0 disk space used, your drive is DEAD.
It happens if you had unplug your flash drive whithout stoping it by cliking on the icon in the notification window (near the clock), the icon is mini drive whith a green arrow. Allways unplug the USB devices by this because you have the +5 voltage on this connector and if you don't do this an arcking effect happens betwen your device and the connector.

SOURCE: Unable to format pen drive

XP has a stupid feature like that. If you did format with the XP style, try to do it manually.

My computer > Locate your usb pendrive >Rightclick and Format.

If this don't work, your pendrive might just be malfunctioning. Replace it if you can, or upgrade to external harddrive.

My USB Toshiba 8GB show only 4MB

hi,
some part of your flash drive sector might corrupt or bad.

the windows operating system automatically repair the flash drive or card , so that's why the unreadable sector or bad sector of the drive will be defrag separately from the operational sector, to be able to secure your files.

Pny attache optima pro 8g usb drive disk space problem

Yes, and Perfectly too.

What you should do is,
depending on your operating system,
Right-Click on 'My Computer Icon', then select 'Manage'.

When you get to Computer Management page,

Click on Disk Management on left hand side,

This will display ALL the disks installed on your system, either partitioned or not partitioned, formatted or not formatted.

Then go to the ones that are hidden, not created, or not displayed, right-click on it, then you'll see different actions that you can perform.

Also, in some instances, what you just need to do when you get to this page is to assign a new, distinct, drive letter apart from the ones already in use on the system.

This will automatically bring out the hidden drives.

Hope I have helped you out.

Goodluck

I have a SanDisk Cruzer USB 8GB that is only allowing me 1.33 GB of space - says 6.594 GB used and there's nothing on here - how do I gain that storage space back? tx

There might be a hidden file(s) on the drive that are taking up that space. Open the drive in My Computer, click Tools > Folder Options... On the View tab, click Show hidden files and folders. Then check the drive to see if any hidden files or folders are present.

You can also try formatting the drive. Right click the drive in My Computer and click Format...
