Question about Kenmore 79012 / 79014 / 79019 Gas Kitchen Range

Open Question

Range repair The oven control panel on my on my above noted model of kenmore range will not read out properly and the oven is suddenly not igniting. It is reading an error message . I removed the the glass panel because I wanted to inspect the oven control board (kenmore part 9316577019). I found a damaged ribbon wire stamped "JW1001 21 REV A1". It is the smaller of the ribbon wires on the unit. Is this a part that can be ordered from Sears or a local parts house.

SOURCE: Sears Kenmore Elite Oven 790.99123405 Caught Fire!!!

The PF indicates a power failure.
The range experienced a loss of electrical power.
This code is usually cleared by pressing the CLEAR/OFF button.
If you continue to get this code, you may need to unplug the range and check the wiring connections of the power cord on the back of the range.

Hello Everett,

The problem beleive it or not is that the bake ignitor is weak ,and it is not drawing the proper amprage to open the gas valve. If you have a amp meter access the wires to the bake ignitor(usually behind the storage drawer) and check for 3.3-3.6 amps when set to bake ignitor by clamping the meter around ONE wire wire of ignitor make sure only one wire, either one and not both.
if amp draw less than that replace bake ignitor. If you dont have amp meter take my word for it since in my 30 years appliance repair career i have when the ignitor comes on, that it's weak, to be the problem 100% of the time

If you have tried to reset the microwave oven by turning the mains power off and on without success then it is likely the display is faulty.
The only way to repair is replace the control panel board. This can cost a lot of money.

F3 code on Kenmore Oven Model 911 4558810

The F3 error code indicates that the EOC (Electronic Oven Control board) senses a problem with the oven temperature sensor. You could have a defective sensor, a failed EOC or a bad wiring connection between these 2 components.

Normally, a technician is needed to diagnose and repair this type of failure. The technician would unplug the range and access the EOC in the console. He would pull the 15-pin plug from the EOC and measure the resistance between pins 12 and 13 of the plug. This would check the temperature sensor and connecting wiring. The tech should measure about 11000 ohms at room temperature (75 degrees Fahrenheit).

If this reading is good, the EOC would be the failed component and would need to be replaced.

If the resistance reading of the sensor circuit is bad, the reading would be taken directly from the leads on the temperature sensor. If the resistance reading taken directly off the sensor is bad, then the temperature sensor has failed and would need to be replaced. Otherwise, the wire harness is the failed component.

If you have a volt/ohm meter and the technical expertise to safely access and test internal components of your range as described above, you may be able to diagnose and repair the range yourself.

My oven suddenly quit working - broiler works and burners, but the oven will not heat and there is the smell of gas whenever I turn the oven controls on. Can light the bottom burner of the oven with a...

More than likely, you have a bad igniter. As the igniters age from repeated use, they can become weak and longer function properly. Just because they glow, does not mean they are good. If you are experiencing ignition problems, the following link explains a little theory about how these igniters work and how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575727-replacing_an_oven_igniter_on_a_gas_range

The burner manifolds in the oven each use a glow bar or electrode type igniter with a gas safety valve to ignite. Both oven manifolds are controlled by the Electronic Oven Control (EOC) board, which is your clock/timer on the control panel. If the surface burners work, but the oven does not, the problem is usually not a gas related issue. If a single igniter is still working (i.e., the broiler still works), its more than likely NOT a control board issue, either.

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices vary between these sites, so shop and compare. The first three sites listed also offer helpful exploded view diagrams to help you locate and properly identify the parts you need. If the model number is correct, the part number for a replacement igniter is WB2X9154.

NOTE: It is common for the BAKE igniter to require replacement more often than the broiler, due to the frequency of use.

If you have any questions please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Oven gets red but won't light

The burner manifolds in the oven each use a glow bar or electrode type igniter with a gas safety valve to ignite. Both oven manifolds are controlled by the Electronic Oven Control (EOC) board, which is your clock/timer on the control panel. If the surface igniters work and the broiler still works, the problem is not a gas related issue or a control board issue. More than likely, you have a weak or failed oven igniter. Igniters grow weak with age and occasionally need to be replaced. Just because an igniter glows, does not mean it is good. If you are experiencing longer ignition times, or no ignition, this is most likely the case. The following link explains a little theory about these igniters and how to replace one:

If you have any questions please post back with a complete MODEL NUMBER and let me know. The model number should be listed around the oven door or lower drawer opening on a Kenmore. I hope this helps you.

Error message on Kenmore oven

F-1 is not good. It basically means the EOC (electronic oven control is bad). There is a little test here for a little info:

This simple test will help determine whether the ERC (Electronic Range Control or Clock) or the touch pad is defective when F1 error code is present.

Note: Some models incorporate the touch pad in to the ERC as a single assembly, in which case this test is not necessary. Simply replace the ERC (Clock).

Warning: If you feel in any way uncomfortable performing this test or making this repair, please contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

1. Disconnect power to the range (unplug the range power cord or turn the power off to the range at the circuit breaker). It is very important that the power to the range has been disconnected, so please double check before continuing.
2. Gain access inside the control panel.
3. Disconnect the touch pad (also called keypad or membrane switch) ribbon from the ERC.
4. Make sure there are no lose wires, or anything else that may cause a short when power is turned back on. Assemble the control panel back the way it was.
5. Turn the power back on.
6. Wait for at least one hour to see if the F1 code comes back (usually accompanied by a beeping sound).
7. If F1 comes back, replace the ERC. If it does not, replace the touch pad.

If your broiler is working in your oven it could just be your bottom element is burnt out. Ease to check and change. Just look at the element for a bubble or it could be burnt right through. If so remove the element by unscrewing the screws at the back of the element and replace with a new element.
