Re: Error Message on display

The alarm message usually means that the tape didn't load properly.  Instead of trying to play the tape and destroy it, the unit will just stop.  A common problem is that the tape heads don't spin.  Without a cushion of air between the heads and the tape, the tape will get ruined.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is a repair that needs to be done by a tech.  The positions of the tape and heads are very touchy and have to be perfect.  I would try to find a repair center that can give you a good estimate and then determine for yourself if repairing the unit is cost effective.

Hope this helps :)

VHS tape is running at high speed when insert it to VCR. no playback..buttons doesnot work.

Check if the fast forward button is more inside than the rest of the buttons. May be its stuck in the ff position. After all they were just micro switches below the plastic buttons strip. The specific ff micro switch may be stuck, if I were you I would try some switch cleaning spray to loosen it. But be prepared that the control ic is busted.

Err on display when insert tape, no functions work.

Two things. First there is some damage to the tape transport mechanism. Only a good look around will confirm this. Secondly a faulty mode switch.

I have taken a rarely used Sony EVS2000 out of the closet to transfer some 8MM tapes but after loading the first tape I can't get any motor functions to work. No play, FF, Rewind or eject will function....

sounds like the mechanic is stucked. this happens because due time the used grease is loosing its viscosity. cleaning mechanic and regreasing will help. btw change of old rubber parts are recommended also.

When 8mm cassette is installed the word alarm appears on the screen. no functions will work, play, ff, rewind etc. it will eject

Assuming this VCR is compatible with 8mm video then there is an internal fault that will require a technician to diagnose.

Working with sony pvw-2800 getting an error code 02 with ff and play. what is this error?

error 02 is "slack or breaking of tape is detected in search, fast forward, or rewind mode". usually caused by problems in the reel motor assemblies themselves.

Tape won't play, FF, or eject.

sorry to say that trip button for that.i assumed that the magnetic strip of the tape is already wind up'll need to open the unit up and gently rotate the flywheel of the tape player until you can open the door of the tape need to force or it will just break.

Panasonic aj-d230h

without knowing the exact error message, I can only speculate, but most rewind errors I have seen with the AJ-D230 are related to problems with capacitors on either the reel motor driver board or the system control board. the firewire upgrade (AJ-YAD230) is no longer available.

More likley it's not the little white thingy but the belt that drives it. Take the bottom off and get that broken belt out and runn down to the VCR / Tv repair shop and see if they have a new belt

Actually the problem is in the capstan drive. If you replace or clean the idler, the problem will likely disappear....accordianman

When 8mm tape is inserted I get an immediate "alarm" display

Is this a player or a camcorder?
Being a long time used unit it probably needs its rubber parts serviced which is consistant with your problem.
