SOURCE: refurbished dx 959 from galaxy no modulation? no transmitt?

If there is no transmit at all, it sounds like it wasn't fully refurbished. If it is just low modulation then just turn VR16 and VR14 all the way to the left.

If its not working at all, send it back. It hasn't been refurbished.

I have no transmit

Jeremy, how good are you at soldering? Do you have another radio you can hook up next to the 959? hook that radio to the antenna and the 959 to a dummy load.Key the mic and look at the meter on the second radio to see if it moves. If it doesn't then your soldering skills are required. You may have to replace the final and since this radio may or may not have two of the your soldering will be improving.Check out the audio transformer also.Anything in the tx audio circuit. If you don't want to mess with it get a tech to do it for you.

Radio wont transmitt

If there is no movement on the meter. have the SWR's check on the antenna system.. Free to have it checked. at a good shop.. You may have whats called a blown final..( final transmitter transistor) from high swr's. although you may hear, doesn't mean the antenna is OK. the other problems are a bad Audio transistor on the back corner, its the Large TO-264package/TO-218/TO-220 Styles. also. there a small diode on the solder side of circuit board near the 10.240 crystal, if its loose will also not let it key up or TX.
make sure all your coax cables are tight, and all the switches are in the correct positions... also doesn't hurt to have a second radio nearby to see if it will transmit to it. for testing. If you need more help let me know.

Galaxy DX 98VHP meter stopped moving . There is no swr reading, nothing. Even with a seperatye meter atached or a dummy load, the meter on the galxy is not working. Did I lose all power?

You appear to be aware of you antenna system with the separate meter attached so the tells me you dont punish a radio with an high swr. I am just guessing red wire/solder in mic cord at plug given that it is a side mic mic jack.

Can't talk about 2 miles ,swr is good

If your talking at least 2 then it sounds like it is the antenna. Any antenna should talk 10-12 miles on a good day, no matter what radio you're using. So I'd get a second look at that system.
