DVD's just say

This is the most common problem of any CD or DVD player. It's one of two things, either the laser lens is dirty and needs cleaned, or it's out of align and the transport would be replaced (it's less expensive than aligning a lens) First, get a good laser lens cleaner, one that uses fluid and run it thru the unit a few times. Check your DVD's and CD's for fingerprints and smudges. Clean DVD's and CD's with a liquid car polish like Meguiar's or Mother's, it only takes a couple drops and does miracles for old CD's and DVD's, plus it protects them from future harm. Then try your unit again. If it still gives you an error, check to see if it's still under warranty, and check Sony's website for any recalls www.sonystyle.com look under support and enter your model #. If it's out of warranty and has no recalls, the repair should probably cost from $125.00 - $175.00 weight the repair cost vs. replacement cost. Expect to have the unit out for service for three weeks or so door to door. Hope this helps
