SOURCE: condensation and water in refrigerator

It sounds like you need someone who knows what they are doing out to your house. A tech should find and repair or replace the component that leaks. A second trip should be not be needed. The fact you have mold tells me they have never properly did your repair. Mold will grow only when the cavity gets above 40 degrees for a sustained period of time. use http://www.subzero.com/locator/locator.aspx?type=0&zip=02030 or call 800-222-7820 and explain the situation and get another company to fix it right.

SOURCE: Refrigerator crisper drawers are freezing veggies

Shut the air flow into the crispers if you can. If not, turn the refrigerator temperature warmer by just a few degrees. The air into the fridge from the freezer is channeled into the crispers.

Model #ess25lgpaww ref section too cold turbo light will not go off ,fan goes off and on normal but lite stays on it dont freeze everything but it freeze in fresh food items fruit juice and lettuce

That sounds like a thermostat problem, but I wonder why the Turbo light won't go off.

Here is the Service Manual for your appliance
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/575785/Ge-Gss20.html#manual

This is your Instruction manual and it says if you press the Turbo Mode button, it will run in Turbo Mode for 8 Hours and then you have to press it again after 8 hours to get out of Turbo. Have you tried pulling the plug to get out of Turbo Mode. It chills the compartment to 1'C, so that would certainly ruin a lettuce!

Details are on Page 5.

How To Properly Store Vegetables and Food

The first step in proper storage is making sure your refrigerator is at the proper temperature. You will want to make sure your fridge is somewhere between 34 degrees and 40 degrees Fahrenheit. If your fridge goes above 40 degrees, your food will spoil more quickly, but if the temperature is too low, the vegetables in your drawer will freeze.

Often, crisper drawers will have a mechanism to regulate how much moisture flows into and out of the drawer. Depending upon which vegetables you are storing, set the drawer to either let moisture out for drier veggies or keep moisture in for vegetables that need the humidity. Having a fridge with multiple crisper drawers is helpful in storing vegetables based upon their humidity needs.

Vegetables tend to be very sensitive to ethylene, a substance that comes from most fruits and a select number of vegetables. Because of this, storing fruits and vegetables separately is advised. Ethylene exposure is responsible for carrots turning bitter, the yellowing of certain green vegetables and lettuce turning brown. In addition to absorbing ethylene, some vegetables also absorb odors from other veggies. For example, the odor of apples is absorbed by carrots, cabbages and onions. If odor absorption occurs, it can affect the taste of the vegetable. Add a box of baking soda to the crisper drawer to help with odor absorption. After about two weeks, you'll want to shake out the top layer of the baking soda to maximize freshness.

Some vegetables benefit from being stored in a bag in the refrigerator rather than being out of a bag. These vegetables, such as artichokes, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and eggplant, should be placed in the crisper bin in perforated plastic or paper bags so that they can maintain moisture. However, some vegetables like lettuce don't do well with lots of moisture; for this reason, you should not wash your vegetables before storing, but before eating instead. With carrots, beets, radishes and parsnips, removing their tops prior to storage will help them keep longer. Similarly, the head of celery stalks should be covered before storing.

Does some bagged lettuce have bacteria in them?

Undoubtedly. There have been warnings about rewashing bagged vegetables. Vegetable soap is sold around the country.

Q. How can I keep produce from freezing in my refrigerator?

More Articles in This Series

Jason West, the marketing manager for refrigeration at General Electric. "Nobody really knows what the temperature of B is, or what the temperature of No. 5 is."One solution is a refrigerator thermometer. Oxo makes a handsome one with a round dial attached to a suction cup that can be installed easily on either interior side wall ($12.99 atoxo.com). Taylor makes a rectangular digital one that is installed the same way ($12.47 atamazon.com).

Once you have the thermometer, "put it in overnight and check it immediately in the morning, the first time you open the fridge," Ms. Reek said, because the temperature varies during the day as the door opens and closes.

The problem might be where you're storing fruits and vegetables, which are sensitive to cold air. Leafy vegetables are especially prone to freezing, Ms. Reek said, because of their high water content.

Although some newer refrigerators have separate cooling mechanisms for the main body and the freezer, most refrigerators cool by funneling air from the freezer into an opening near the top rear of the main compartment.

Fruits and vegetables should be kept away from this outlet, Ms. Reek said, or else "you're going to be blowing that very cold air right on the produce."

Both she and Mr. West recommended keeping produce in the crisper drawer, away from the circulating air.

"You don't want the moisture to transpire out of the product and make it limp," which can happen with produce on a shelf, Ms. Reek said.

If the crisper is full and some produce has to sit on a shelf, it's better to keep it at the front of the refrigerator, because cold air falls down along the back wall. Along with the area directly beneath the outlet, Mr. West said, "the back and bottom of the refrigerator tend to be the coldest spots."

Shirley O. Corriher, a biochemist and cookbook writer, suggests shaking off all the surface moisture from produce and sealing it in heavy zip-top freezer bags before putting it in the crisper drawer or on a shelf.

"Oxygen is a major villain, so to speak, in the deterioration of fruits and vegetables," said Mrs. Corriher, the author of "BakeWise: The Hows and Whys of Successful Baking" (Scribner, 2008) and "CookWise: The Secrets of Cooking Revealed" (William Morrow Cookbooks, 1997).

Lettuce leaves, in particular, benefit from being sealed in plastic, she said, and you should roll the bag "until you squeeze all the air out. That lettuce will keep for three weeks. It's just amazing."

Still, Ms. Reek said, "the objective of food is to eat it."

"If it's fresher, it's going to have higher vitamin content and be healthier for you," she said. "So it's really better not to plan to store food for ever and ever."

Can fruits and vegetables be stored for emergencies?

No, unless they are canned fruits and vegetables. Regular vegetables and fruits will not last for a long period of time.

Dont have money need food pellets for my bearded dragon for free

You do have other options besides pellets. http://www.anapsid.org/bearded.html is a great source of information. My beardie eats crickets and fresh fruit and veggies (make sure fruits and veggies are listed as "safe" and chopped or cut into appropriate sized pieces. For mine, I shred the fruits and veggies in a food processor so that he can not be picky and just eat one or 2 of the different foods. If you use wild caught insects or use plants from your outside around your home, make sure you are not getting poisonous insects and/or plants and the they have not been exposed to pesticides, weed killers, some types of fertilizers, or any other harmful chemicals.

Kenmore 253. I'm renting a house with this refrigerator. Freezer seems ok but fresh food spoils really fast - lettuce brown, berries moldy, etc. How should I adjust the refrigerator? Thanks.

maybe a door seal issue. Worn seals allowing fresh moisture laden air into the box. May not be getting enough cold air, try turning it down. Lettuce browns from oxygen contact, fresh air may be making it brown faster. May also be just how the unit operates.
