WHAT WOULD MAKE MY CAR ENGINE WANT TO RACE FORWARD

A few possibilities:
  1. Defective throttle position sensor (TPS);
  2. Bad idle bypass circuit or idle circuit solenoid;
  3. Cracked intake manifold, throttle body assembly, or bad throttle body gasket (most likely);
  4. Serious vacuum leak somewhere.

Hi I have a code p17705

You will need to get a VW type scanner and perform throttle adaptation . You may have one of two issues, one being a faulty throttle body, the other being a bad harness. We have seen some issues with the 01 model vehicle engine harness. There is a problem at the connector for the throttle body. Normally we will unplug and reconnect the harness to the throttle and perform a throttle adaptation. If it fails, the first thing is to replace the throttle body, if you are still having problems, then you will need to replace the engine harness.

Idle fluctuates up and down engine warm. stalls at stops

The most common cause of this is a dirty throttle body. If you follow your air cleaner hose to the engine thats your throttle body.When you take the air hose off you will see black stuff around your butterfly thats the bad stuff you can remove that by giving it gas or moving the throttle cables.and cleaning with throttle body cleaner! This will only take about 10 minutes

Engine doen't stay idle at steady rpms rev up and down by itself

Either you have a vacuum leak, a bad throttle body position sensor, or a bad throttle body.

If the throttle body is drive by wire (electronic) then it would be a bad throttle body.

If the throttle body is drive by cable (manually driven by a cable connected to the gas peddle) then it would be a bad throttle position sensor.

If the throttle body is bad the check engine light wil lbe on. If it is on have your codes read at your local parts dealer for free, and this will give you a clue as to which pices/parts you need to replace.

Have the car leak tested and the vacuum linse inspected for leaks as well.

hi, those sound like throttle actuator codes. the throttle body on your vehicle should be an electronically controlled unit without wires to control actual acceration an deceleration. now, there is also an electronic switch called a potentiometer on the gas pedal that transmits signal to the throttle body to tell it what to do. most of the time, the throttle body is what goes bad here. you should also check the wiring to the unit for bad connection by wiggling the wire connector and seeing if the reduced engine power light comes on. if this happens, you will likely have to replace the wiring pigtail and the throttle body. but, in some cases, the gas pedal switch goes bad, and likely what is not allowing the transmission to shift out of park, the pcm may lock out the solenoid controlling the shifter. but, don't just run with that answer, it maybe completely wrong. i have seen more throttle bodies and wiring harnesses go bad than gas pedal switches in those vehicles. but you might want to have a shop diagnose further, it may even be two unrelated problems, or in the powertrain computer itself.

sometimes the gasket under the trottle body goes bad. spray carb cleaner at the base of the trottle (not down into it) body while the engine is running. if the idle changes your on the right track. its an easy gasket to change.
