Question about Cub Cadet Model 7234 Parts Svc Owners Manuals Cdrom
I pulled the tractor into the shop and noticed the alternator wasnt charging and the battery was dead, so i replaced both, when i hookd the battery cables back up a bunch of smoke came out of the back of the alternator and starter, after that nothing happens when i turned the key, so naturally i assumed it was the starter, so i replaced it, still, nothing happens when i turn the key, i did notice however that the red battery cable appears to be the ground wire since it just bolts to the frame while the black wire goes straight to the starter and wiring harness, when i put the batter in i did put red to positive and black to negative, which by what i see is backwards, i'm not sure if that could cause a problem here or not but please help me!

SOURCE: I have a cub cadet
There is a wire shorted to ground (metal) somewhere...check all the wiring for a bare spot somewhere... this is causing the short...repalce the wire and you will be good...
finding the bad spot is the hard part...

With the battery going dead on its own like that, I think you have a short circuit somewhere that is causing this problem. This could be anywhere in your wiring system so check everything out. Hope this is helpful to you. Best regards and good luck.

If you have access to an electric voltmeter, with it running check voltage at the battery. The engine should charge the battery and maintain system voltage so that the electic PTO will function. The electic PTO will not pull in if system voltage is too low.
