Are speakers connected when you try powering up?

If so , you have an output imbalance where there is too much DC voltage on one of the outputs and the Protect is working OK....In my opinion , not worth getting repaired ( UNless you're a tech and can do it yourself)

The inverter turns on and fans run for approximately 5 seconds and quit and the yellow led near the switch stays on but no115 volts AC output however the 5 volt DC works, any suggestions?


well the yellow light indicates a fault, the 5 volt USB is independent of the invert-er function, you kneed your unit serviced or possibly you have a low voltage cutout or high voltage protect ,check you manual for led fault indicator descriptions, battery voltages should be between 10.9 volts and 13.8 volts this can cause a fault if outside this range.

After about 3 seconds after turning the power on the protection error appears on the screen.


It is possible that the amplifier had encountered a fault with a higher current drain which had triggered it to a protection fault condition. The fault can be your output drivers- the MOSFETS/IC's fitted for both the channels, Use a meter after disconnecting to check for short in the drivers. Disconnect the positive and negative voltages to the output and see if the protect changes. Even a fault in the preamp stages that drives in high current into the output can shut the Amplifier. Sometimes this can be a noise like a HUM or HISS before the protect works. Faulty capacitors in these circuits also can cause similar issues and needs close observation.
You need to confirm and replace the specific stages or outputs. If not there can be issues in the mother board, maybe the protect circuit by itself is shutting off due to a faulty bias , maybe a leak in any voltage/current sensing circuit. Also disconnect the speakers and test, if the protect is off then check for short on the speakers.

Technics SE-A 2000. Powers up but current protection switch cuts in and shuts amp down. this occurrs whether speakers are connected or not.


It is not so easy to probe into to find a protection fault condition. The fault can be your output drivers- the mosfets fitted for both the channels, Use a meter after disconnecting to check for short in the drivers. Disconnect the positive and negative voltages to the output and see if the protect changes.
If so replace the outputs. If not there can be issues in the mother board, maybe the protect circuit by itself is shutting off due to a faulty bias , maybe a leak in any voltage/current sensing circuit.Also disconnect the speakers and test, if the protect is off then check for short on the speakers.

I have a s1500 samson amp I keep blowing speakers, what can I do to prevent this from happing again? The speakers that blown first was two 12'' yorkville 350 w impedance 8 ohm, the next speakers that blown...


Turn the volume down? Feed it cleaner source material?

You don't say under what conditions you're blowing them or if any of the informative indicators are warning you of impending doom. The Samson is capable of cooking just about any home speaker.


The following conditions will cause the Protection LED to go on:


Initial power-up: For approximately five seconds after initial power-up, the

protection circuitry is activated and the speaker output is muted. If everything is

operating normally, you will hear an audible click at the conclusion of this brief

period, as the protection circuitry is deactivated and the S1500 / S2000 begins

delivering signal to connected speakers (at which point you'll hear a click). It is

normal for the Protection LED to fade gradually after the amplifier is powered off.

Overheating: A temperature sensing device in the S1500 / S2000 will cause

the protection circuitry to be activated (and the Protection LED to go on)

whenever the operating temperature of the unit rises above a safe level. To

guard against this problem, make sure the S1500 / S2000 receives adequate

ventilation on all sides and that both the front and rear panels are unobstructed.

Severe overcurrent conditions: This occurs whenever the signal being input to

the S1500 / S2000 rises to a level above 20% THD (Total Harmonic Distortion).

Shorted speaker cables: This will occur if, due to faulty wiring, the hot and

ground signals being output by the S1500 / S2000 short one another.

Output impedance drops below 2 ohms: This can occur if the S1500 / S2000

is connected to inappropriate speaker systems (see the "Setting Up and Using

Your S1500 / S2000" section on page 5 in this manual for more information).

DC voltage detected at speaker output: The most likely cause of this is an

internal failure.

In general, any time the Protection LED lights up (other than during the

approximately five seconds following initial power-up), there is reason to be

concerned. If this occurs, turn the S1500 / S2000 off immediately and carefully

check all wiring and external devices in order to locate and correct the condition

that caused the LED to light up in the first place.

No sound coming with protection light on


It's either overheated or you may have faulty speaker wiring or a shorted speaker. These directions come from a Samson servo 120a but the theory is the same.

The following conditions will cause the Protection LED to go on:

Initial power-up: For approximately five seconds after initial power-up, the relay

speaker connection circuitry is deactivated and the speaker output is muted. If everything is operating normally, you will hear an audible click at the conclusion of this brief period, as the circuitry is activated and the Servo 120a begins delivering signal to connected speakers (at which point the Speaker LED will light if the Speaker on/off switch is in its "in" position). It is normal for the Protection LED to fade gradually after the amplifier is powered off.

Overheating: A temperature sensing device in the Servo 120a will cause the relay speaker connection circuitry to be activated (and the Protection LED to go on) whenever the operating temperature of the unit rises above a safe level. To guard against this problem, make sure the Servo 120a receives adequate ventilation on all sides ; in extreme environmental conditions, you may also

want to consider the use of cooling fans.

To unlock the keyboard press and hold the "menu" button on the front panel for 10 seconds. 2. (Power LED may be on after plug in) check for no less than 4.4 volts DC at pin 3 of PC9A21 on the Power PCB, if low or missing replace PC9A21 part # 268P058020. 2.This model is also equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. Ppower on then standby problem Kenwood KR-V8060


This fault may be similar to a Harmon Kardon AVR1550 fault I recently encountered. I did all the usual checks e.g. testing for presence of DC on speaker outputs etc. but all seemed fine, then the fault cleared! Next day it re-appeared and attention was (falsely) given to the protection circuits as the amplifier circuits themselves were considered to be in order. The HK uses both voltage and current protection circuits and it was discovered that the current protection circuit was operating. Eventually the fault was found to be one of the 0.39 Ohm 3W metal oxide resistors that had gone high in value on the left hand channel. Of course your amplifiers fault may not be due to this but the reason for going into standby would probably be the same i.e. due to amplifier protection circuits operating. You need to check out all the output devices and those resistors on every channel, even surround ones you may not be using. Hope this helps.
