sounds like a looper. Sergers are very complicated machines, I recommend taking it and the piece to your local sewing machine pro. Have him make sure it's timed well and cleaned and lubed while you are there.

I have a Brother SE2700 and a piece came off that helps thread my needle, its a metal piece that goes right under neath where the needle cartiage goes in to thread my needle, I have the piece but cannot...

Unfortunately, the part may very well be broken. Unless you can find someone to repair it for you, you may have to manually thread the needle. Not such a big deal, really. Auto needle threaders have been around for only about 10 years, so machines were manually threaded for over 100 years.

Something that helps:
Lick your index finger
Swipe it across the "back" of the needle eye
(the moisture in the eye will almost cause the thread to jump through it!)

Good luck!

I inherited an Elna 2002 and I can't figure out where the spool of thread goes on the machine. There are two round metal pieces surrounded by a piece of felt on the right side of the machine but nothing...

Can you pull the metal pin up, I know that the Elna 5000, 7000 and 9000 all had retractable thread spool holders. There might be a little lip on the edge of the metal pin that you can grasp with your nails to extract it upwards.

I just inherited an Elna 2002 machine and I can't figure out where the thread goes on the machine. I've looked at pictures of the machine but there's not a holder on my machine for the spool. There are...

tally_girl_22.jpg You need to pull them up from the retractable position for storage and transport, many Elnas have the retractable thread spools like this to protect them from breakage.

Plastic casing around the bobbin

That piece is a sweep that helps keep the hook clean. It is not necessary for the machine to use, I have thrown away many of them. If you can get your hook put back in you should be ready to go.
good luck!

Bobbin compartment trouble

Put the needle in the up position. Tilt the machine back with one hand and lay the hook in its position on what is called the hookrace. The little ledge inside the the circle opposite the other part that moves. Then take the outer ring and lay that in over top of it. There is a small pin on the bottom that fits into a notch. The two small nubs should be on the outside, then click the two black knobs over those. Put the bobbin in the case and the thread through the notch up under the tension spring on the case. Looking at the back of the case, pull the thread and in most machines the bobbin should turn clock-wise. Now snap it onto the post.
Your good to go.
Good luck.

My needle broke and a piece of metal fell out of machine

Totally happened to me last week. I discovered that the metal piece that fell off and holds the needle has a small screw that holds it in place. It needs an Allen wrench (tiny one) to tighten it back into place. I just lucked into figuring it out.
