Re: alarm sound coming from hard drive

I'm assuming the alarm sound would be coming from your computer this case, what does the alarm sound like?  1 long, 2 short?

It sounds to me like your video card failed on you.  I assume you're posting here because your computer has this specific motherboard.  If you're comfortable opening your computer, you may want to make sure that your video card is set properly in its slot.  It will be in the brown component slot above all the white component slots.  Try to gently push it in first.  To really make sure it's seated properly, take the card out & put it back in.  If you're not sure how to do it or you're not comfortable doing it, then leave it alone.  Chances could also be that your video card is good, but something failed(slot, circuit, etc.) on the motherboard.

Another possibility is a bad setting in BIOS, which can cause errors.  In this case, you'd have to reset it, which also requires opening your computer.

Do you remember what you were doing on the computer before this happened?

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive boot up

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty

Have a Dell Computer that was purchased in 2005 with Windows XP Home Edition installed. The computer had an alarm sounding and then just shut down and we cannot get it to come back on. We have tried...

kindly let me know the beep code sequence (the alarm) which you are getting. Just switch on the computer and carefully listen the alarm one long continuous beep or short beep or one long followed by one short. This information is necessary for providing you the solution. Online chat would have been more helpful to restore your pc.

Gigabyte k8m800-8237 wont boot with hard drive installed, hard drive beeps and computer shuts down. when I unplug the hard drive the computer boots with DVD drive. Hard drive is good, but used a 2nd one...

sound like you either have a dead SATA socket on the board, use another one, or at worst try a PATA hard drive, second thought is possibly go into the bios and make sure you have no previous hardware raid arrays left behind, sounds odd.. but i have seen it cause similar problems before.

Hard Drive

try to check the memory of your laptop... memory is the one first that is affected when screen is not displaying... try to place another memory on your laptop... if you have a screw driver for laptop, get it and open the back of the laptop casing..

note: be careful in opening it. because it might damage your casing...

New screen will not show anything

Hate to tell you this but it sounds like a backlight inverter problem. This was the piece you undoubtedly saw at the bottom of your monitor when you took it apart. It's a small chip that goes out sometimes, usually way before a monitor itself goes out. The old monitor might have been working just fine.

The part is about $20 on e-bay if you want to look it up and it is a relatively easy fix. Hope this helps.

Computer powering up

It looks like your mother board is old one. If so clean it with IPA solution (Iso propyl alcohol). Replace the processor. Then try again. You can also try changing your Video card. That can cause problems if not seated properly. If nothing works get your motherboard serviced.
