I think your proximity sensor is having issue, best thing you can do is go to settings-> accessories-> enable power button to end call.

When making a call the screen shuts of and wont come back on.I can hear the person talking but cant use dial pad

If you move the phone from your ear to a viewing position it should light up so you can access the dial pad- you may have to do this motion a couple of times. If that doesn't work try pressing any key on phone such as the home button you may have to go back into phone mode after home screen but it shouldn't end the call. If you access your call settings you may be able to set that your screen stays lit during calls, the down side to that is possible accidental pressing of the keypad with your cheek which is why screen is set to go blank. Hope this helps Jane

My LG Optimus U keeps going blank when I make calls. The call goes through but I can't use the dial pad or end the call. HELP

If you have a screen protector - remove it. The phone thinks the screen protector is your ear pressed against the phone and will not display the dial pad.

When i go to dial a number from the touch screen.... even though i have the setttings so that the keypad will ALWYAYS show... alot of times it disappears and stays black. i have to then open the phone and...

You must have stuffed your phone with too many things which makes it slower enough to make the keypad dissappear cus of low memory,. Try uninstalling unused apps and pictures videos and others, it it still persists, try downloading truecaller app from the play store and make it a default caller app. That will solve your problem. For that I'm sure. Thank you. Try that and get back to me.

Re: Bug with Phone virtual number pad
I've found the answer to this problem!

Part of the problem is that the screen blacks out shortly after a call is connected.
When that happened I pressed the green phone button to get the keyboard back.

This keyboard image is a dummy. It visually responds to your touch but does not send the signal.

After you dial and your call is connected look at the bottom of the screen and you'll see that the normal menu tab changes and appears with the number 5 and letters jkl on it.

Pull it up with your finger. THIS is the keypad you must use when within a call to send number signals. I tested it and confirmed that it works.

If you have pulled up the dummy keyboard by pressing the green call button from within a call then simply hit the BACK button to see the real keypad tab.

If the screen has gone black and you need to light it up again then you can press BACK, HOME, or MENU to see the real keypad tab -- press anything BUT the green call button (which will give you the dummy keypad).

This dummy keypad is a true design flaw but knowing how to get to the functional one makes it an annoyance not a hindrance to using the phone.
