Question about Refrigerators
I have done the following. removed ice maker. used hair dryer. put back and all is working with the mechanics. checked that water is going to ice maker. the water works on dispense. filter is clean. it seems that water flows for about 4 second then stops to ice maker. it should run longer? so tiny ice cubes are made. how to I get the water to stay on to the ice maker longer. I do not understand how to check the tube going to the ice maker from the filter? it seems the water control valve on back of frig is working since water is getting to the filter? thanks rich

The water line is freezing in the door due to deteriorated insulation. The only fix I have found to work on my fridge was to defrost the inside door with a blow dryer. Then place a weedeater replacement line (the orange 10" or so size you find at Lowes' or Home Depot) up through the dispenser nozzle, If the line only travels about 3-4 inches up the nozzle, then ice is still in the tube. Blow dry it until you are able to get water to dispense. After the tube is ice-free, place the weedeater line up throuth the dispenser nozzle leaving about 1/8" sticking out. The dispenser will still work with the line stuck in it. The dispenser will probably freeze again in about 8 hours, But all you need to do each time this happens is to pull the weedeater line out, dispense the water to unclog the ice, and place the weedeater line back in the nozzle. I have been using this method for about a week now and it works great. My GE Side-by-side is also 4 years old and this seems to be a problem with all of them. There is a part you can order to fix the problem, but I have heard it may not work.
