Question about Magellan eXplorist 200 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Unit Freezes Up

The unit will freeze up. This seems to happen most often under tree cover (what I would call moderate cover).  Our Magellan eXplorist 210 works fine under the same conditions.

Re: Unit Freezes Up

Try turning off the WAAS function to see if that makes a difference.  If it's already off, try turning it on.  It's either a software/memory problem, or there's a short in the antenna. There is no update available for that unit.

My Explorist 210 does not connect with any computer. What can I do.

What is happening is your computers are not recognizing your unit. Means you have to update unit via the registered site for updates.

first Perform a hardware reset to return the minor settings of the GPS to the original condition. Press the small "Reset" button on the side of the unit for several seconds until it powers off and powers back on.

If that doesn't solve the problem, then it means you will have to perform a firmware upgrade to put the GPS back in order.

Download and install the Content Manager software available for free from the Magellan support website. Connect your GPS to your computer with a USB cable, and the software will automatically search for firmware updates for your GPS.

Here is support to copy and paste in your browser for Magellan. Thanks Mike

My recommendation would be simply to replace entire unit unless you have experience fixing electronics.

Magellan triton 500 freezes up

You might have an sd card inserted that contains information that the unit doesn't recognize. This happened to me when I tried to fudge some old magellan destination maps onto the sd card...the format was wrong and the unit froze...gave me the message.

Explorist 210 no base map

I solved this problem by gonig to the secret menu by holding the nav + power. I entered the value # 95 in the menu. This will let you format the memory area in the unit then I down loaded the latest firmware update from and installed it on the
unit.I had already made a copy of the files on the unit in my hard drive so i copied the files back to my unit so that i did not loose anything important like poi's and geocaches etc...

PS when I did the firmware up date the base map must have been restored.

Help Explorist 500 jammed (locked up) wont even turn off

To speed things up a bit with frozen Explorists, you can undo the battery cover and pull out the battery then replace and start again. I have had to do this many times.
