Question about Cub Cadet Model 7234 Parts Svc Owners Manuals Cdrom

Cub cadet 7234 no crank no start

I pulled tractor into the shop, and i noticed the battery was dead and the alternator was not charging, i replaced both and when i hooked up the battery cables alot of smoke came out of the back of both the alternator and starter, when that happened i have nothing happening when i turn the key to start, no lghts in dash or anything, so i replaced the starter thinking it was the problem, still nothing after that, i did notice that the battery cables appear to be reversed, red is grounded on frame and black goes into wire loom and starter, i did when i installed the battery hook it up backwards, i put red to positive an blac to negative and i'm not sure if that could have caused a problem, please help me!

Look for a 'driver presence' switch that is broken or recently disconnected or is out of adjustment.

A 'driver presence' switch is a switch that activates only if you are in the driver seat. Check the bottom ot the seat ... check the safety switch that should be on the mower deck. How about the foot petal sarety switch ...

SOURCE: I own a Cub Cadet Hydrostatic Lawn Tractor, not

Hello, W/D here.
Without a particular model number, I'll have to be somewhat generic, so forgive me in advance.
The fact that the mower will run and the blades will engage is good news; it eliminates about half of the things that would need to be checked.
Look for a lever at the (usually) back of the tractor, on the back plate, down low. Sometimes called a range selector or a disengagement lever. Normally, the position of this rod is "IN". If it has pulled towards the "OUT" position, the transmission is disengaged. Usually this rod is pulled out when you want to push the mower, and I expect you're tired of that by now! Chech and see if this is the issue, and post back if not.
Regards, --W/D--

SOURCE: I have a series model 1018 cub cadet with electric

If you have access to an electric voltmeter, with it running check voltage at the battery. The engine should charge the battery and maintain system voltage so that the electic PTO will function. The electic PTO will not pull in if system voltage is too low.

SOURCE: Even with a fully charged

Here is a test you can do.. Follow the thick red cable from the battery to what is call a solenoid you will see two rods with the red wire from the batter going to it and a red wire going to the starter leaving it.. Take a screw driver and connect the metal rod to each other make sure you are touching the rubber handle of the screw driver you will see sparks because you are connecting the batter power to the starter.. if the engine turns over then you need to replace the solendoid that is your problem.. you pick them up at any auto store. If that doesnt work please let me know thanks..

L1650 does it have a charging system??

All riding mowers that have a battery start have a charging system, per se, that runs the tractor after starting and provides charging power back to the battery. If this wasn't the case batteries would need replacement about once a month, unless you placed them on chargers between use. That said, the don't use the type of alternators that cars do (at least not the smaller tractors), they use stator-based alternators. Here is a sample of what one looks like schematically (from a Kohler-engined Cub Cadet) (yours may differ slightly).

one more possible check. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Then try it. You might put jumpers from the car on to do a check without doing the battery check. If it runs with the car battery, most likely in battery, or alternator.

Cub cadet zero battery is dead after sitting a few days.

This is an electrical issue, you have a short in the harness, can very well be the keyswitch...even though you turned it to the off position, it's giving the unit the impression that it's still in the on position.

Battery drained after use

A lot of automotive parts stores will check a battery for free...
find your lowest amp rated (less than 10) and charge it over night.

Have battery load tested.

if good, place ammeter between battery and the rest of the tractor to check and see if load from running engine is draining or alternator isn't working.

or fast way to check an alternator on almost anything, start with battery, the pull off the negative (black) cable, if engine dies nothing is powering the engine but the battery (on an alternator driven electrical system, the battery is only used to start the engine)

I have a cub cadet 7234, shut it off last night now it wont do anything. Everything is in neutral but it won't crank.

Take a jumper cable and attach one end of the red set ends to the positive post on the battery after making sure the battery is fully charged, take the other end of the red cable and attach it to the bolt with the usually red wire on the starter. Take the blackset and attach one end to the negative post on the battery and touch the other black end to the starter hpousing and see if the starter engages, if it does not then you can assume that the starter has died. If on the other hand the starter spins over then either the starter switch or one of the safty switches on the cub cadet has failed. You can test all the switches by removing the wires going to them and using a small piece of wire bypass the connections untill you find the one that is defective, replace that one and you should be back in bussiness. Hope This Helps Don
