Question about Cub Cadet Model 7234 Parts Svc Owners Manuals Cdrom
I pulled tractor into the shop, and i noticed the battery was dead and the alternator was not charging, i replaced both and when i hooked up the battery cables alot of smoke came out of the back of both the alternator and starter, when that happened i have nothing happening when i turn the key to start, no lghts in dash or anything, so i replaced the starter thinking it was the problem, still nothing after that, i did notice that the battery cables appear to be reversed, red is grounded on frame and black goes into wire loom and starter, i did when i installed the battery hook it up backwards, i put red to positive an blac to negative and i'm not sure if that could have caused a problem, please help me!

Look for a 'driver presence' switch that is broken or recently disconnected or is out of adjustment.
A 'driver presence' switch is a switch that activates only if you are in the driver seat. Check the bottom ot the seat ... check the safety switch that should be on the mower deck. How about the foot petal sarety switch ...

Without a particular model number, I'll have to be somewhat generic, so forgive me in advance.
The fact that the mower will run and the blades will engage is good news; it eliminates about half of the things that would need to be checked.
Look for a lever at the (usually) back of the tractor, on the back plate, down low. Sometimes called a range selector or a disengagement lever. Normally, the position of this rod is "IN". If it has pulled towards the "OUT" position, the transmission is disengaged. Usually this rod is pulled out when you want to push the mower, and I expect you're tired of that by now! Chech and see if this is the issue, and post back if not.

If you have access to an electric voltmeter, with it running check voltage at the battery. The engine should charge the battery and maintain system voltage so that the electic PTO will function. The electic PTO will not pull in if system voltage is too low.

Here is a test you can do.. Follow the thick red cable from the battery to what is call a solenoid you will see two rods with the red wire from the batter going to it and a red wire going to the starter leaving it.. Take a screw driver and connect the metal rod to each other make sure you are touching the rubber handle of the screw driver you will see sparks because you are connecting the batter power to the starter.. if the engine turns over then you need to replace the solendoid that is your problem.. you pick them up at any auto store. If that doesnt work please let me know thanks..
