Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Hetaing problem I am not a HVAC guy, I am trying to help a disabled neighbor, who has a looser for a landlord. The heat in his apartment will not work. It still kicks on with the thermostat but blows cold air. I pulled the door on the unit, and found that only one heating element is hooked up. This concerns me because, if only one element was working would it be enough to properly heat a 1000 sq ft apartment? I will add that the duct work appears to have been installed by drunk monkeys. The return is laying in the lake that the unit is sitting in the middle of. I will also add that all duct is foil flex duct. I see on the schematic that it shows 2 heating coils, but not wired that way. I know that there could be a host of issues with this thing, but my primary concern is. If this furnace is once again (repaired?) with one element, is that dangerous and could it possibly burn the place down? I also noticed that the thermostat in this apartment will max out at 76, it can't be turned up any higher. I feel really bad for this guy, he is disabled, on oxygen, and using space heaters to warm this place. I just don't want to sound stupid when I speak to the owner. I also noticed that the thermostat unit drains batteries very quickly. I replaced them with new energizers and within three weeks they were dead. Any help is appreciated.

SOURCE: Admiral Dryer (Model # ADE7005AYW) wire connector burning causing no heat

I had the same problem with my dryer. Fixed it with high temp wire (875 F) and end connectors rated for the same temperature. Make good connections between the wire and the connectors because if they are poor they will heat up as well. Sometimes the thermostat will cause this problem as well or an older heating element that is going bad.

SOURCE: my kenmore dryer is blowing out cold air

Make sure that both poles of your circuit are live - An electric dryer uses 220 volts to the heating element, but taps into only one pole (110 volt) for the motor that spins the drum. Check your circuit breaker to make sure that neither pole has tripped.

My fan in the outside unit will not shut off and runs all the time, my electric bill was $400 last month! A neighbor claims i need freon another guy (HVAC mechanic) told me it was the compressor and that I...

Hello, it sounds to me like it is the contactor coil on the outside unit, a contactor is like a relay and energizes when power is applied to it, If this contactor is stuck or bad it will cause the fan to run continously. I will post a pic of the contactor coil so you can see what it looks like. Most likely replacing the contactor coil will solve the problem and cost about 15 bucks at a heating and cooling store. robhvac47_15.jpg

I live in an apartment building; the A/C has been "broken" the entire summer and, although multiple reports have been filed with the landlord, nothing's being done. I've pulled the A/C out, the receptacle...

Unfortunately it could be anywhere in the building. I have seen the conduit and breaker boxes for units placed several stories away from the outlets. Often times in the basements or other utility rooms. Breaker panels in your apartment are for your convienence with normal items such as your stove, fridge, or normal appliances. However, some landlords will place the breaker panels for airconsitioning and heating system in a separate, locakable arear or room. Especially if the landlord pays the utilities for air or heating. I suppose it gives them the added benefit to cut you off in the event you don't pay the rent.

Sorry for the problems, hope it works out for you.

Particles coming from hvac

This is insulation from a piece of flex duct that is most likely broken or falling apart. It is not good to be breathing insulation I would take to the landlord about having the piece of flex duct reconnected to eliminate any further insulation infiltration.

Disabled neighbor was given an ASKO T780 dryer, but it doesn't heat up. What could the problem be so I might be able to fix it for him?

most likely if the dryer does everything except heat up the heating element is bad if you take it apart it will be directly behind the holes inside the dryer

Air conditioning

Here are a couple things to check first make sure that the filter inside is clean if not replace. 2nd the outside coil needs to be cleaned at least once a year to ensure effeciency. These two things will make a dramatic improvement in operating costs and capability of the unit.
