Go to your office, or to your friend house, and try it on another and different network. Also use a cable connection. If not better, you need a service assistance on your network adapters and network software.

My internet wont work when I start up my Hp 2000 notebook pc (Windows 8.1) and I gotta go to the little network icon and right click and press troubleshoot problem which sometimes works, also randomly

I find the 'Troubleshoot' does more damage than not using it! If you are not sure if you are connected to the Internet, I just bring up Google and search for eg: www.bbc.co.uk (nice and short). If that comes up I know I am connected. Are you using an Ethernet connection or a wireless one? More often than not, the problem is with your ISP supplier! Try ringing their helpline. Sometimes it is caused by a router problem caused by them, not you!

Troubleshoot a Compaq Wireless Network Card

step 1

Open the Compaq's "Start" menu and type "Device Manager" in the "Search" box. Click the "Device Manager" icon.

step 2

Scroll down to the "Network Adapters" heading and click the plus sign to expand the list of attached network adapters. Right-click the name of your computer's wireless network card and choose "Uninstall." Follow the uninstall prompts on the screen.

step 3

Close the "Device Manager" window and return to the "Start" menu. Click "Restart" and wait for the operating system to boot up again. Follow the "Found New Hardware" prompt that loads on the screen to reinstall the network card.

step 4

Return to the "Device Manager" window and right-click the network card's entry again. Choose "Update Device Driver." Follow the prompts to install the latest driver.

step 5

Check the left side of your Compaq computer if you are using a laptop to see if it has a wireless network switch. Push the switch over to the "On" setting if it is set to "Off."

step 6

Open the "Start" menu and click "Network." Select the "Network and Sharing Center" icon at the top of the window.

step 7

Click the red "X" icon to have Windows automatically search for the problem. Follow the prompts to diagnose and resolve the network connection issue.

step 8

Double-click the networking icon in the system tray at the lower, right corner of the screen and click the name of the network you need to connect to if you are using Windows 7. In Windows Vista, instead click "Connect To" in the "Start" menu and click the name of the network.

My linksys wireless pc card is not able to connect to the 2wire router which is made by gateway, but the internet provider is at&t. How do I make it work?

What is the Operating system on the laptop ?
If it is XP then in the bottom right hand corner you will find Wireless network connection ( looks like 1 computer monitor). Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is windows Vista, then in the bottom right hand corner you will find 2 computer monitor icon. Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is Windows 98/ME/2000 then use the adapter utility to connect to the wireless network.
For MAC you will see the AIRPORT icon at the top.

Check the wireless settings of the router first . Make sure that you have all the wireless settings of the router. If you are not sure about the settings, then open the router set up and check the settings.
