Question about Toshiba 14AF42 14" TV

Open Question

How do I change source without remote?

Got this TV from my grandma, was hoping to get it working right away. Instead, its stuck on TV source and I can't for the life of me get it to change to video 1, 2, or 3. This is an old TV but I need CRT's for a certain video game which requires TV's with no lag, which basically means older ones. I think this is the perfect TV so I'm not going to switch, but I wanted to know if there's a solution outside of getting a universal remote. It only has two 3 buttons on the front: Power, Channel(+/-), and Volume(+/-). I have the remote which worked when my grandma had it, but its a comcast remote and I don't think it works without the comcast thing connected to it. Also, it doesn't have a source button either :/. Anyway I know this TV is old but please, if you have any info that might help it'd be appreciated! Thanks

How to change input on tv without a remote

Which TV do you have? Some will have an Input or Source button on the front panel. A few will have an option to change the source from the menu. Both of these options require the front panel lock to be inactive.

A few older TVs allowed you to find the A/V input by pressing Channel Down on the front panel buttons until you passed channel 2 (or Channel Up until you nearly reached Channel 2). This option wouldn't work if the A/V inputs had been deleted when someone minimized going through unused channels.

If the Source or Input button was only available on the remote, you will need a universal remote that includes this feature. These cost a bit more than the lowest end remotes. Then you will have to try all of the codes to find the one that makes the Source button work with your TV. (Several codes may work for On/Off but not the change input.) The Universal remotes that can be programmed from a computer (USB connection) will be the easiest to set up. Remotes.com may have a replacement original or substitute remote for your TV that should work for all of the TV functions.

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the TV make and model for specific options for your particular TV.

Remote is broken, how do i switch the source?

The remote is needed to change the deeper settings, if you still have the old remote take it to a TV repair shop, he may be able to do something, or better still may have a used one. If you come up empty, you will have no choice but to order a new one.

My t,v. jusrt goes to 6 stations and i have cable. instead of it being on cable as usual it says air where it usually says cable. It is a apex t.v. and apex control, thank you joyce.

Which model of APEX TV do you have?

In general, if the TV has had the source changed, you will need to switch it back from Air (OTA) to CATV (cable). Newer TVs may have the choices of Air and Cable for the TV source.

To change the setting, press Menu (on the TV (if present), on the original remote (in TV mode) or on a substitute remote with the Menu function). Use the up/down arrows to select the TV submenu. Select this menu with the right arrow. Then go down through the submenu to the Source line. (It may read CA-TV/Air on an older TV.) Use the left/right arrows to toggle the setting. Then press Menu to save the setting and return to the previous menu. Then go to the CH Scan option in this menu to rescan the available channels.

Note: I've gone through the directions for an older Apex TV (AVL-2076) with an analog (NTSC) tuner. The directions will probably be similar for other TVs but the menus (and sub-menus) may have different names or be in a different order.

I hope this helps.

Can't change from HDMI2 back to HDMI1

You need to change via tv selections option for tv, this should be possible by selecting the source for tv feed. This should give various options to select hdmi11, hdmi12, scart1 ect. If remote not working to change look on the tv itself for the control buttons, normally on the back to 1 side (rh from front) then pressing the correct button. If this does not work try turning power off to tv for a couple of minutes and then turning back on. Hope this helps.

Daewoo DVN-14F6N

Same problem...Went to Goodwill Store, they usually have a large basket of remotes. I found a Daewoo remote for a TV only, HOWEVER on the bottom it has a AIR/CABLE button. The remote doesn't say Daewoo on it only..."Remote Controller R-25B03". The rest of the button of course work with the TV portion of the DVN-14F6N.

Older ge tv but cable ready-no remote.... need to find channel to play dvd player on.Recently connected dvd player but can't play a dvd.The tv is connected to a cable box.

Hey wegodsky,

If you're not able to find the right channel on your TV to use your DVD player, you may want to try changing the TV's input source instead. Many TV models will require that the TV be set to an external antenna in order for any other device (like a VCR or DVD player) to function correctly. This can usually be done by pressing the menu button on the TV itself and selecting an option similar to "Input," "Source" or "Antenna" if you do not have a remote control for your TV.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
