SOURCE: I have an old Hotpoint refrigerator. My problem

Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

SOURCE: runs, light works, no cold air.

since everything seems to be working,
lets start at the beginning.
pull the unit out and remove the back.
is the compressor running,, becareful, but touch it with you hand. if its cold,,
unplug the machine
you may have a bad relay or overload,
they are the parts that are mounted directly to the compressor.
if you can remove it and give it a shake if it rattles
its bad, not allowing compressor to come on
thats where id start,,, let me know

SOURCE: hotpoint ffp187b loud noise from appliance

Where is the noise coming from? The front, back, top, or bottom? Is it a bump, thump, bang, clang, or rattle? Does the sound happen at regular intervals or randomly? It could be the compressor bushings going bad, causing the compressor to bang around.

The temp sensors, or thermostat may not be correctly reading the temperature. if the temp sensor reads the wrong temp for example it'll think its warmer than it actually is and keep running to try and satisfy the tstat.

We have a Hotpoint Side by side- Freezer is working but the Refrigerator is not getting cold - What to do??

There is a couple of things that could be going on here.

1. Open you freezer door look at the back panel and see if it is covered in ice. If it is you most likely have a defrost issue. If this is the case the Evap coil becomes covered in ice to the point it does not allow any air flow.

2. Open freezer door and with one hand push in the door switch so the light goes off. Listen and feel to see if the Evap fan motor is running. If it is not running we could have a bad fan or a bad board.

3. Open you fridge door, in the top left portion of the should be a damper assy. put your hand in front of this damper and fee for cold air and some air movement.

After you have done these three things I walk you a little further in solving your proble,

Hotpoint WDD960 Washer Dryer - no error code but whenever I put it on a dry cycle it just spins as if working but without actually drying. Any suggestions?

Sounds like heating element is not coming on ..Heating first then with a Fan motor running and water flow the steam that is produced by the heaters are changed to water by the cold water over a condenser , the pump then puts his out to waste..

Frosting up badly despite having just been defrosted

Hello,

Most times this is a bad cold control, but there are other things to check for. Make sure the condenser fan is working and the coils are not covered with dust. A separated heat exchanger ( small capillary tubing soldered to the large suction line ) can separate from one another and make the fridge run too long. - tape tubing back together. A poor working evaporator fan motor could also make the fridge run too long and freeze - replace the fan motor. An inefficient compressor or refrigeration system could make the fridge run too long and freeze - have a service tech check this out. A misaligned control settings, make sure the air damper and cold control have not been bumped and are out of normal settings. Stuck open air diffusers or air dampers are becoming more and more common for allowing too much air to be blown into the fresh food section and freezing things. On all frost free fridge's the freezer temp air is blown into the fresh food section, if you have "easy" to freeze items ( eggs, veggies in water, etc ) in front of or under where the freezer temp air comes out, they could freeze - store them in a different spot. Doors not closing properly making the fridge run too long is something else to check for cold control and air deflector As you know, the deflector directs the freezer air toward the front of the frig and the rear of the cold control.
Hope this helpout.....

Hotpoint washer dryer leaking water whilst drying

driers work by running cold water down the back plate of the machine so the hot damp air condence's on to it. It works on the same principle as your bathroom mirror, because its colder than the air around it the moistier in the air condence's on to it. Most machines use a seperate inlet valve from the cold water to do this, they are proned to rub against the back of the drum.Take the top cover off the machine and check the hose's from the cold inlet onto the back of the machine you'll probably find a hole worn in it.
