Ingersoll rand vr843 telehandler, won't go into reverse, and now in neutral it's in forward gear,and forward gear works fine

possible that one of the protections switch it off check oil levels motor and screw can also be a sensor, can check these by briging them one by one. first indication is control lamp. or possible fuel problem check filters and tank. also check wiring complete. is weak point for ir machines. good luck.

A VSD 10 fault is bus oscillation. Quickly rising and falling voltage. Recommend having power company check incoming voltage for oscillation.Voltage can not vary more than 3 percent or alarm is issued.

Heat in that location noted is to be expected, but to the degree that it is should be of some concern.

When was the oil changed in the compressor last?

If you are running with a multiviscosity oil, use it only if the manual indicates it. Running straight weight oils, especially in extreme conditions is prudent insurance against failure. If you are running 10W20 for example- run 20 weight instead until regular air temps are below freezing- then the switching to 10 weightshould be a consideration..

The oil sump serves 2 purposes- 1- Coolant. 2-lubrication.

However I think the bearings in in the compressor are needing attention.
More because it sounds like there is an oiling problem in the compressor itself. At an absolute minimum it sounds like the head should be pulled to inspect for galling in the cylinder walls and to look for trace oil on the cylinder wall.

My directional control buttons on the gun are sticking


Ingersoll Rand impacts have o-rings that are mounted in the housing or on the valve that are susceptible to swelling and causing the reverse valve to stick!

never use a hone on a air tool cylinder! use 00004 steel wool! make sure the compression rings are concave facing up! then if the vanes have the cut out on one side put that to the bottom of air motor.

Runs fine in reverse, but will not run full speed


make sure the power /speed controll is set on high in both directions yes it can easily be rebuilt i can do it cheaper than most places, i have 30 years experience at fixing air tools - i worked for snap on tools also check and see that the front housing screws are equally tight.

It turns weakly to loosen, and not very strong to tighten.Have removed the air chuck, and it is not plugged


Check to see that the power regulator dial is set to its highest number. The forward/reverse selector is also the power regulator and can be turned from 0 to usually 5. Look at your impact gun from the side and you should see the numbers next to the forward/reverse knob.
