Since the y-variable is isolated in both equations, set the two right sides of the equations equal

x^2-7x+4=-8x^2+56x-86

Combine all like terms on one side of the equal sign

9x^2-63x+90=0. factor out the 9 to get** 9(x^2-7x+10)=0**

Now solve the equation**(x^2-7x+10)=0**. The solutions are x=5 and x=2

Calculate the y-value tof be y=-6

The two solutions are**(2,-6) and (5,-6)**

Graphically, here is how the two curves intersect. One intersection point in the screen capture is (2,-6). You can read that the other intersection point is (5,-6)

You can't simply enter 7x+9=30 into the calculator, there is a way to calculate what the x is but its been a few years since I've done these..

An implied multiplication happens when you put two names of variables
one after the other without actually entering the multiplication sign
(* or cross). The calculator is interpreting this as a multiplication and is telling

Well, you can't directly distribute it on the TI-84 because the calculator plugs in a number for x. If you know how to distribute it in long hand though, you can just use the calculator for any math you need help with. Or you could plug in the number you want for x by pressing that number, sto>, x. You can do problems like that long hand in the following way. If you were given (x+a)(x-b) you first do x(x-b) and get x^2 -bx, then a(x-b) and get ax-ab, then add those two answers together, giving you x^2-bx+ax-ab and then x^2+(a-b)x-ab. So your problem for example would distribute to (spoiler warning) x^2 -7x+7x-49 and then x^2 - 49 because the - and + sevens cancel. Graph both lnx and -7x and then go to the graph. Once there, press 2nd then calc and scroll down to where it says "Intersect", select that, select a point on each line, and press enter and it should give you the intersection point.

You're right in that the calculator thinks you have 19 data points. You need to delete the nine unwanted rows. After pressing EDIT, press NXT to bring up the second set of editing functions. Scroll down to each unwanted row and press B for -ROW to delete it.

Use the rules to simplify the expressions: Get rid of the parentheses using distributivity od multiplication with respect to addition; group similar terms (terms with x, terms without x).
