Question about Denon AVR 2808Ci Receiver
I have a Denon AVR-2808 CI receiver. It is connected to my Samsung TV, Sony DVD player and AT&T cable box. I have AT&T Uverse. I am not able to get any picture on my TV when I turn my cable box on. All other components connected to the Denon work just fine, DVD works (I can get the picture), radio works, but just not the cable. I can see my cable if I disconnect it from the Denon and connect it directly to the TV. HELP? Also, Denon does not have a preset code for AT&T cable. Could this be the problem? I also tried the Learning function as suggested in the manual, but that did not work either. Please help!

Hello, I think that you've got a problem in the relay circutry or a logic problem. tell ya what I ve got the service manual and schematic for the reciever. the engineers at denon where ahead of there time when this company started. they designed the equipment around what they wanted the specs to be for signal to noise and discrete audio channels. each of the sound channels from the component and composite inputs is given its own bus and amplifier channels. these paths are also common to the reciever/tuner outputs. one question though you mentioned that the composite/component video paths are not switching from the input to the output youve designated, and that the monitor checks good. do you have another video source, either digital or analog that you can input throgh another channel to see if it is infact a switching problem. try that and let me know. I can give you help with the switching circutry form the schematic if need be. believe me I know It took me about a week to track down the service schematic for this unit. Denon doesn't like giving out info unless you are an authorized repair center.

Unless you are having res. issues you can use component / optical / coaxial cables to connect all your devices to your denon and from your denon to your tv using component cables also

After days of frustration the real problem was with the cable box. It needed a firmware update. Following forum advice I disconnected the cable box power cord for a few minutes, reconnected it, allowed the cable box to reinitialize. Turned off receiver and TV. Turned TV back on and set it to HDMI connection, turned on receiver and all worked fine. Great picture and sound.( Needed to buy an optical cable to go from the cable box to the receiver to get sound from the speaker system. )--the dirtybird

Long and painful answer!!! However, in the end, you need to bypass HDMI thru your receiver and go direct to the TV. Connect Digital Coaxial or Optical for audio to your receiver. Your version of HDMI in your receiver is not compatable with today's HDMI version. Yours is 1.1a and the current version is 1.3b going to 1.4. If you want detailed info as to "why", just google "HDMI 1.1 problems" you can read for hours! Sorry for the bad news! However, it is what it is. Hope this helps. If you need further help with setup, post a comment and I can give you further help.
