Get only a genuine new switch button with spring from an AERUS Electrolux dealer and reinstall.
Then carefully reassemble the entire body and wiring harness.

How to replace a on /off rocker switch on a hoover pure power bagged vacuum

Some switches can be prised from the housing with a thin blade and the wires transferred to the new switch which is then pushed back into place.
Often with older equipment the plastic of the switch and the housing can become stubborn and unyielding so it is kinder to access the rear of the switch and either press in the locating springs or break them off to free the switch.
Lots of repair professionals would break the old switch to pieces in-situ and save any dismantling.

How To Replace the On / Off Switch On Hoover Windtunnel Self-Propelled Uprights

What you'll need to do this repair:
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Needle Nose Pliers
- Hoover Windtunnel Switch For All Upright Models

Step 1. Turn the vacuum cleaner around so that the back is facing you. Remove the two screws at the top of the vacuum that are holding the handle on the machine. Please see the picture below of the two highlighted screws that need to be removed;
b37b5a3.jpg

Step 2. After these two screws have been removed, simply slide the handle backwards, and remove it completely from the vacuum and set it aside. You now can see the on/off switch, but you can't easily change it from here, you'll need to complete several other steps before you can remove the switch. Here's what the vacuum should look like after removing the handle:
1aabeee.jpg

Step 3. After removing the handle from the vacuum, turn the machine around so the front of it is facing you. Open the vacuum bag door and set the door aside. Also remove any attachments that are on-board in the tool storage bin, this model has a hand-held turbo brush stored here. After removing both of these parts, you'll need to unscrew 3 screws that holds the tool caddy onto the vacuum cleaner. I have circled the area where these 3 screws are located:
32822fa.jpg

Step 4. After removing these three screws, pull the tool caddy off of the vacuum by pulling straight forward by using the tool caddy lid. You'll now have access to both the front and the back sides of the switch. Use your needle nose pliers to remove the two wires that are attached to the switch. Be careful when pulling these wires off because if you pull too hard, then it will break the switch terminal off inside of the wire. Most models have the wire that has a plastic covering over the end of it on the top, and the metal terminal is connected on the bottom. The two lead wires that need to be removed are highlighted:

8c3008f.jpg

Step 5. After the wires have been removed from the switch, turn the vacuum back around so that the back of the machine is facing you. Simply use your flat head screwdriver to pry the switch off. You may push on the back side of the switch where the wires connect to it in order to give a space so that you can get a screw driver behind it. Here's how it should look:
d700e4d.jpg

Step 6. Once the old switch has been removed, simply push the new switch into the open hole. Important: Make sure that the Off setting of the switch is at the bottom, and the part of the switch that says on is on the top, otherwise the switch will be reversed. Re-attach the wires to the switch, with the wire that has the plastic covering on top, and the metal wire terminal on the bottom. The only tricky part of reassembling is when you put the handle assembly back on the vacuum. As you can see, there is a metal cable below the switch. This metal cable controls the self-propelled mechanism. If you look at the handle assembly, you'll see where the self propelled cable sits inside. The easiest way to line these up is to pull the cable up to the top, and then line up the rod inside of the handle that the cable goes in, and slide the handle back on the vacuum.

I hope this was helpful.

I have a Electrolux 2100 vacuum. I have found and repaired the broken rocker on/off switch. What I need to know is where does the spring with the rubber tube inside it get connected? Thanks Alan

As you're looking at the switch side, the short end of the spring clips over the right end of the rocker. The long end clips into the rectangular hole at the other end of the switch housing.. The rubber piece will point to the rear.

I unscrewed the 4 screws on the bottom of my gen 3 mistakenly trying to replace wheels. now it turns on sometimes when the on button is pushed and sometimes it doesn't. is there an easy fix?

Easy fix... wow... um.. maybe.

I think that you may have accidently disconnected the metal arm between the foot pedal and the actual switch. Its not a problem, but you will have to open the top of the kirby unit to see if it has been disconnected or not. we are trying to get to the area above the wheels but below the foot switch.

first, take the handle and the bag off the unit and lay them down.
next, take the plastic covering around the switch off, you will need a flat screwdriver to take that off. the pry spot is just above the switch where you can slide in the screwdriver.
next, lift up the light and remove your belt/brush attchment off the front of the unit.
remove the 2 screws at the top portion looking just above the shaft sticking out of the unit.
remove the 2 screws behind the foot switch
you should see what looks like a 7/L chrome metal bar going between the footswitch and an orange plastic piece inside the unit where the bag goes. it should be inside the orange plastic piece and inside the lower portion of the footswitch.

I think that when you dropped the wheels it may have come off of the footswitch. re-attach and you should be good to go.

Good luck.

HOW DO YOU REPAIR SWITCH ON A RAINBOW VACUUM?

Use a thin screwdriver or some other something like a butter knife and slide it into the gap on the side of the power switch. THis is just a plastic rocker that actuates the actual switch. Pry up on one side a little then the other to work it out. Don't worry if you break it, you can get a new one when you purchase the switch for around $5. Once you have that off, the switch can be pried up in a similar manner. It just unplugs from the socket.

You can purchase switch and cover rocker at goodvac dot com at a significant discount over other sites. Fast delivery too.

Replace switch on electrolux 2100

The 2100 is an older model which is prone to rocker switch failure. What you see outside is only a switch button. Underneath is a plastic rocker which sits in a grove and pivots back and forth to activate the on off switch.
If you push the switch down and there is no audible "click" you Likely need the rocker itself, especially if you tip the vac upside down and shake it and hear a piece rattling inside or find a broken narrow plastic finger about 1/2" inch long when opened.
However if it clicks and works every 3-5 times, the rocker is fine and you will need the spring mechanism and switch button which you can see form outside.
To remove either the process is the same.
Separate the body by opening the bag cage and pulling the two bumpers forward with a set of pliers. They are locking keys. Once removed, the rear housing will drop off allowing the vac to hinge open back to front. Do this with the vac laying upside down and observe the hinge section of the front bag door .DO NOT REMOVE THE MOTOR. You will need to clip all these componnets back together to reassemble and slide the bag chamber back to seat against the motor with the motor housing engage in the ribbing of the vac side walls.
With the vac open you will only need to remove the spring loaded bag lockout switch and the bag housing it sits on, not the motor or rewind..
Once removed there will be 6 chrome philips screws visible. These hold the top trim on the front of the vac and the front ones hold the on off switch into its housing. At the very front will be two screws going through a black or whitish switch housing. That housing will lift out with wires attached to reveal the switch rocker, etc,. This portion will lift back and out at about 45 degrees of the inner housing, as a unit. The switch button sits atop the rocker via two end tabs and will pop off the housing to reveal if the rocker itself has a broken "finger" or if the button has a weak spring.
The suspect spring is not the coil rocker spring but the thin U shaped spring on the underside of the switch button. Remove the rocker spring with a pair of needle nose pliers.and examine the rocker comparing to your new one.Use more vaseline on the new rocker and if you have it reinsert the clear flex plastic into the coil spring. If not disregard.
Re-installation is the reverse order, tuck switch back in at 45 degrees from back to front.
Pay special attention the the rubber seal at the back of the bag cage.
If anything is misaligned in this body you will fight to reassemble. Don't fight it , back up and look at your work. When and ONLY when it is perfect it will realign and click together like a lego set and the keys will slide in perfectly
You can and should test the vac before reassembling the whole body, simpley slide your hand under neath and activate the switch, with a bag inside the vac.
See now, wasn't that EASY???????
Please post back to advise how you make out. Its a 7 minute process worth $25 for a good tech. A bad tech will spend half a day trying to figure this one out but just go slow and follow the instructions and you will do fine.

Replace power switch - Electrolux Epic series 6500

well, i post an answer in the wrong field, and i can't find it, so i will type one more time.
slide two vinyl side pieces off, and remove top halves. remove two screws from the switch, and remove it from top halve. between switch and outside button is a plastic rocker, which is broken. you will find two broken pieces, one spring for the rocker piece, and one small plastic rod, which goes inside of the spring for support. i do not know if part is available, but you can for quick fix like me, turn the switch on by the hand, assemble unit, and plug in, and plug out from the wall. whay? i dont have electrolux store close by.

Hoover windtunnel U6476-910 switch doesn't work

What has worked for me on this vacuum is once the handle is off and the on-off switch is visible, work it back and forth manually.  Mine was very stiff and it did not get any better.   I went to radio shack and bought a spray can of Control/Contact Cleaner and Lubricant. It comes with a small piece of tubing.  I put the tube into the top edge of the switch and pushed the button FOR A FRACTION OF A SECOND and then did the bottom edge of the switch.   I worked the switch manually a couple of times.   I repeated the spraying one more time and the rocking.   I put it all back together and has been working fine for me.   This stuff is made for electrical contacts...  HOWEVER, use it very very sparingly!!!  ALSO, a new can has a bit of pressure so watch out that you don't blow some back at you.   JOE

How to replace the elboe on the power nozzle

wouldnt recommenddoing it urself as it may have warranty. But if u have the head off and the elbow apart im not sure what parts u have. If u have both these taken apart. It is pretty much self explanitory. u need to take the prongs out of the one end. At the other end ot the wires there r two attachements. The end that is at an angle attaches to the reset button which is by the L shaped part. The opther wire attaches either directly to the small motor itself, or to another wire which has a plastic cover on it. The wires that you took the prongs off of the rest along side the little knobby piece and then you wrap them around the middle of the knobby piece. Slide the elbow sleeve over the knobby piece and then turn it so u can bring the ends of the wires out of the little hole in the middle of the elbow sleeve. When the is done attach the two little clips back on the the elbow the one on the inside and the one on the outside at the back of the elbow. reattach the prongs to the ends of the wires put them into the notches about the middle of the elbow sleeve. Reattach the little cover and ur done. If u have the whole assembly. Take p/n cover apart and reattach wires where they r already connected inside the head. Put the head back together. Feel free to give me a call 1-866-966-9350.
