i have a kdc 135 and i had the same problem. you have to go to standby mode, then hold down the menu button until MENU appears. then toggle up or down with the button on the right and it will say aux. then toggle left or right to turn aux on/off and then after that when you hit source it will come up as an option.

There appears to be a short in the speaker wire. See page 18 of this manual: http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/manuals/113/113mp142.pdf

Hi, i can not figure out how to get past or reset the protect mode on my kenwood kdc mp 142

The model that you refer to has the reset button just before the 1 Button. Press that for a second with a pen or something of the the same point size and there is no need for force. This will reset the head unit. All personal settings are lost when reseting the unit. However if it goes into protect again then there could be a mistake in the installation somewhere, most likely incorrect speaker installation or speaker cable shorting on metal somewhere. There could be other reason but these would be most likely the cause. Good luck dreamsystems

Try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes. If not, you may need to hard reset by holding down the reset button for at least 10 seconds.

Cd player plays, but no sound comes out of speakers.

first off the amp gets power straight from the battery. the amp is used to power the subs. the subs are suppose to be connected to the amp only( never the speakers).

for the second part you mostlikely killed the wires. you should get some one to look at it and check the wires. thee speakers might need to be re-wired
