Question about Danby 22 in. DDW396 Free-standing Dishwasher

Open Question

Leak under the unit.

Not sure about the model, bought it second hand...It's the counter model with window, stainless steel interior. Toward the end of any cycle, the counter gets about 8 ounces of water. I rinse dishes and the hose connections (back) are dry. Seems to come from a crack (under the unit) towards the front of the unit... Do you know what it could be?

SOURCE: Danby counter top dishwasher leaks

This might help with disassembly. Mine was leaking also, but my main problem was no spray. Use my disassembly instructions to remove the pump/motor. If you notice that the leakage is from the pump and not a loose connection, remove the pump cover and apply a thin bead of Blue RTV sealant to the rubber ring. This stopped the leak in my pump.

My Danby dishwasher (DW) stopped working. The spray arm stopped spinning completely and very little water was coming out of the arm. When I removed the spray arm (CAUTION: reverse threaded, turn CW to loosen and CCW to tighten) and ran the DW, very little water was spraying out of the pump.

I thought maybe the pump was clogged. So, I followed the recommendations I had seen online about running a few cycles with Vinegar to clear the crud from the pump, but this did not help.

It seemed like the motor was operating, and there were no strange smells to indicate the motor was burned…just no water spraying. So I thought it must be the pump. Before disassembly, I tried to locate a replacement pump. I searched far and wide, both locally and online, and could not locate a replacement pump. So with nothing to lose, I decided to disassemble the DW, take a look and see what I could find. I am glad that I did.

The bottom line is that I disassembled the dishwasher and found that the plastic pump impeller had worked its way off the pump shaft and was not turning. I forced some Teflon plumbers tape over the shaft and forced the impeller back onto the shaft. The impeller has a flat spot to line up with the shaft and I pushed the impeller down on the shaft as far as it would go. I then used a small socket to fit over the shaft and GENTLY tapped the impeller for a final seating. I reassembled the dishwasher and it worked like a charm.

Since I could not find any service manual or instructions online for this DW, I thought I would share my disassembly/reassembly procedure.

Since my instructions are too long to post here, a complete repair document including a link to pictures can be found at:

SOURCE: water leaks from the door of countertop model on

My older model had cheap plastic type rivets around the window. Of course they broke and water leaked out the window. I took the door apart and put in a new gasket the siliconed the heck out of it!
Put dishwasher on a counter or floor and put a nice thick phonebook under neath the opened door for support. Carefully replace window with gasket and a bead of silicone. Put enough weight on top to press it down and seal it. Leave for 24-48 hrs. I've replaced the window 3 times and this fix has lasted 2 years now. total cost about $10 and a little effort. make sure you use heat tolerant silicone.

SOURCE: portable dishwasher dished just haven't

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

The problem seems to be with the float switch assembly that is bad and needs replacement. However, before replacing this part you can run a empty cycle with 3 cups of vinegar inside at its hottest temperature, after this clean the drain filter assembly. If the problem returns then replacing the float switch assembly is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Coffee pot located on counter directly above dishwasher leaked coffee down front of dishwasher. Heavy light began flashing and will not stop. What can I do?

Actually, I think some coffee got down into the base and triggered the flood sensor. (Or it may coincedentally be that your dishwasher has a leak that triggered the flood sensor). You would have to pull the DW out, remove the panel on the left and right-hand sides, and dry all the water (or coffee) out.

I have an insinkerator hot water dispenser with stainless steel tank, and the tank is now leaking. I'm wondering if it can be fixed or needs to be replaced

Replace water heater if tank wall is leaking.
These things have short warranty period.
Stainless steel will theoretically last longer, but steel tank water heaters have replaceable anode rod to prevent rust-out.

Be sure to recycle the old metal.

Drain hose leaks. can i buy a replacement house

You can use generic hose.
Turn the breaker off.
Remove your unit. It may have screws holding it to the underside of the counter. You may also need to lower the front legs by turning the feet with a wrench.
Look under the machine and disconnect the drain hose. Take care as there will be water in the system.
Look under the sink and disconnect the other end of the drain.
Take to Home Depot and get a section of the same length and diameter.
Installation is the reverse of removal.
Hope this helps you. Please rate this answer if so.
