SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

SOURCE: My camera shows CARD LOCKED

Try taking the card out of the camera and clicking the side of the card - there may be a little gap on one side of the card or a small button that you can slide up and down and then reinsert your card.

SOURCE: Memory card locked!??

What you need to do is take out the card, and on the side of it there should be a little gray thing which can slide up and down. It needs to be slid all the way up. I hope this helps!!

SOURCE: Unlock card

If the card is locked, you could the steps below:

- Turn off camera
- Remove memory card
- Take a look on the switch of the memory card itself
* If it's at the TOP = card is UNLOCKED
* If it's at the BOTTOM = card is LOCKED

- So, you just have to make sure that the switch is at the top
for the memory card to be UNLOCKED

After doing that, you just have to put back the memory card to your camera and turn on the camera. Try to check if this works.

When you turn camera on or try to take picture it says card locked

The memory card in the camera has been locked. if you remove the memory card, you will see a small tab on the card and it is likely switched to the "lock" position. This can happen easily by accident if you are handling the card. Simply slide the switch on the memory card away from the lock position and you should be back in business.

I have put a new sd card in my camera, and its says memory is full. What could be wrong.

A few things can be happening first the SD card may have the lock switch in the lock position I'm including a diagram to show the correct positioning.
tri3mast_94.jpg

The next thing is you said you put a new SD card in. All memory cards need to be formatted to the camera they are going to be used in formatting cleans the card (yes I know it's new) and makes it compatible to the camera. Also each time you download pictures to the computer the memory card needs to be formatted to re clean the memory card and make it ready to accept new pictures. One other thing your camera has a small capacity in todays standards and the largest SD card I see being used is a 256mb, if the new card is larger then 256mb this could be the problem as well. If this is the case then it might be possible to update the camera firmware. However it would be a whole lot easier to purchase a 256mb card. Format the new card making sure the lock is in the right position and continue on as you have been.

My Canon A3100 is saying memory card error - underneath it says memory card locked. I tried the option of sliding the switch etc. but without any luck. Can anyone help me with this. The memory card was...

The little lock slider switch should be pushed forward to the top edge of the memory card towards the gold contacts to unlock. I hate asking a question to solve a question but did you use a card reader or did you download the images from the camera through a USB cable. Two things well maybe three first make sure the slider is in the correct position then see if you can format the memory card in the camera. What you might have done to cause this error is disconnected the camera from the computer without first "ejecting" which shuts off the card before disconnect. Another thing and I dearly hope you didn't do this would be to have formatted the memory card in the computer.

If you didn't eject the memory card it is possible to have caused the memory card to crash
Please do not format a memory card in the computer and expect it to work again in the camera
It might be possible to re-format the memory card in the camera after formatting in the computer but it's a stroke of luck.
Always format the memory card in the camera you are using it in.

When i insert my memory card it says "memory card error" i have tried different memory cards but it says the same thing

Is it a new 4GB memory card? If so that might be your problem. The card would likely be an SDHC card, and your camera was designed well before the SDHC format came out. Your camera can only use standard SD cards (2GB or less).
But if the card is less than 2GB, it could have become corrupted. In this case you could try formatting the card in the camera to see if this would rejuvenate it. This will also erase the card. See this post if you wish to first recover those pictures.
Finally, if this is occurring with multiple cards, and is also saying "card locked" even though the tiny slide switch is in the unlocked position, then see this post for a possible remedy.

If you connected the camera to the computer with a USB cord to download your pics and then just yanked out the cord without using the "safely remove hardware" icon at the bottom right corner of your screen, the card may have been corrupted. Replace it.

Was OK, but now memory card requires formatting? Kodak Easy Share C-530. I tried several times to put in new memory card, but it always says it needs reformatting and when i try "continue" it then goes to:...

She is not arguing with the camera. Sheesh. When she says she hits "continue" she is talking about continue for the camera to format the card. But instead of formating the card it says filesystem error e00100. The camera will NOT format the card. I have the same problem. I can format the card on the computer, but again the camera says it can not read the card and needs to format. You choose to format, and it says filesystem error e00100. My card is brand new. So I used cards I have owned for while and used in other cameras. Same thing happens. I tried 4 different cards. A 4gb SDHC, thought that format was not compatible so switched to a regular SD 2gb. Same thing happened. Also tried Standard SD 16mb & 128 mb. All do the same thing.
